Traveller's Rest Pattaya

Traveller's Rest Pattaya Traveller's Rest is one of the largest, if not the largest, golf society in Pattaya.

Apart from our golf society we are also housing 12 rooms in our guesthouse, with a bar and restaurant located in the ground floor.

After six weeks of dodging work, it was time to get back on the horse and help the Scouse Chuckle Brothers with golf today. We had our monthly three person team event known as The Waltz at Green Valley Rayong which has now become one of the top courses on the circuit. We had a total of 51 players made up of every type of Scumuggin that God put on this kind earth. With Barefoot Bob taking a well deserved back seat today, I was left with the Unicorn as my personal pilot for the day.
We paid out on three places and also a birdie pot on the par 3s.

in first place was a mixture of Joe Bonner who is playing the golf of his life at the moment,Dave Bucannan who shot a gross of 74 playing off a 4 handicap and lover boy Jeff Banham who together shot a total of 81 points which proved to be the winning score.
Now everyone knows my personal opinion on small men and it was compounded today as I watched The Monk Bruce Grant team up with Brad Gale and Barefoot Bob take second place with 79 points. Unfortunately that doesn't tell the whole story as poor Brad and Bob suffered serious back damage carrying Bruce around the golf course. With absolutely no shame Bruce collected his share of the prize money which he didn't deserve and dissolved into the Pattaya night.
Third place went to Charlie's Angels or should I say Klaus's Angels which consisted of Klaus who shot one over par, his sweet Primrose Anny who is just improving all the time and Miss Kung who seems to never have a bad game who only lost out by a single shot.
With the Hole in One pot of 30,000 baht today it looked like The Kanute Will Poulton was going to claim it as he hit a salubrious 5 iron 125 yards but unluckily ran just past the hope and in typical Canadian bottling style missed the one foot putt for a birdie. This left the Don Hawkins with the only birdie on the par 3s picking up a generous amount of cash. I don't know if had a grin or a smile on his face as he left the bar after spending his winnings but I am so happy to be back in the bar to see it. Well done Don, I won't mention that your team finished last today.
Afterwards we got into a serious drinking session which is now the norm on a Friday. Brad and Ann provided the free food which was scrumptious. it was then time for some music and loving with Nancy Suthamas singing an array of tunes keeping everyone jiving and dancing the night away.
Nowhere and I mean nowhere in the world would you get the entertainment and blagging that we have in Traveller's Rest Pattaya. Just a side note, so many people are asking me about the whereabouts of Paul Anderson. Unfortunately Paul has shoulder injury that means he just can't play golf at the moment. Talking to Paul he is getting the injury dealt with and will be back on the fairways soon. All he has to do then is go back on the gin and tonics as he is more fun when he is tipsy.
Rock on everyone.

On Friday we had 48 golfers all done up like a dogs dinner itching to play golf at St. Andrews Rayong. One group slithered off to Burapha for their own exclusive game leaving 44 beauties to battle it out on one of the toughest golf courses on the circuit. With the one legged Irishman still licking his wounds, it was done to Potato Head Billy to get all the golfers away on time and with a couple of tweeks everyone got away.
Derek split the field into two divisions and paid three places in each division
Division one
The social media mogul Richard Moore has just returned from a whirlwind trip to the USA with his new clubs that he reckons are magic wands. Well nobody can disagree with Richard as he shot a mind boggling 43 points off a 13 handicap to demolish the field. Second place went to the Barcelona Valley specialist Calin Young who has a nanny instead of a caddy, the only thing she doesn't do for Calin is breast feed him and we are not sure she doesn't do that. As per usual Calin played really well and shot 41 points off a 14 handicap. Third place went to Rusty Barfield who has only arrived from the land of Donald shooting 38 points off a nine handicap. Rusty and his sidekick Randy are here for three weeks of golf where they are going to make wonderful memories.
Division two
Leon Mcdonald is in that special time in life where all the stars have aligned making everything perfect. Leon was always popular but with his new gal on his arm, he is now hero status among those dirty old men in the bar. Leon shot 43 points to take first place and as the saying goes he won the girl also. Well done Leon I am definitely jealous of you. Second place went to the big hitting Martin Jeffries who shot 37 points while listening to Rob Black whining about his love life. Third place went to Joe Bonner who shot 34 points making it a successful week after his stunning win at Bangpakong on Wednesday.
Another great turnout which was followed up with free food and great music from Jayson Talla Camilo . Unfortunately I couldn't make it due to the amount of Guinness I consumed on Thursday night.
Derek and Billy were the hosts and if I may say so.... they did a damn fine job.

A great start to the new week with a trip to the ever popular Pattaya Country Club. With Derek on family duties and Louis taking advantage of a damaged foot, it was up to Billy and Barefoot Bob to round up the troops and send the 42 of them out on time.
We split the field into 2 divisions and paid 3 places in each division.
Division one
Ant Cliff showed that if your handicap goes out far enough then you will eventually win. Playing off a 12 handicap Tony shot 41 points to take first place. Second place went to Ronald Hulen who shot 37 off a 12 handicap to keep up his good form of late. I have waited 3years for Brian Walker to come back from Australia to have a game of golf and a drink with him. Unfortunately the timing couldn't have been worse due to my circumstances. That didn't bother Brian as he took 3rd place shooting 36 points off a 16 handicap.
Division 2
We all know about the TV series Charlies Angels. Well we have a gang called Klaus's Angels. He has guided these darlings to become good golfers. Miss Panada took first prize shooting 38 points off a 19 handicap. The next of the Angels is Anny Pornpimon who only got beat but the other angel on a countback. Stopping a woman's clean sweep Mike Simpson took 3 place with 37 points.

Today is Lob Morickys birthday but unfortunately he can't turn up due to immigration problems. He would like it to be known that his party is on this Friday with all the drinks and food free due his good financial luck last week. He will of course be joined at the hip with his very, very, very close friend Tim Shilling .
Long live the king.

They say that you never know how much you love doing something until you can't do it. Monday golf in Travellers Rest is always a special day. It's usually at Pattaya Country Club which is close by and always plays in its unique way. As I look at the 40 playing today I see one of my best Buddies Gavin Hunt finishing last. Oh Gavin I can only wish to play golf today and finish last. I miss it too much.
Today we split the field into 2 divisions and paid out 3 places in each division.
Division one
My Co-pilot on that fateful morning was Ronald Hulen, it was Ron's smart thinking to get everyone at the scene to lift the car off me and not wait for the tow truck. I will be forever in your debt Ron. Today Ron shot 42 points off a 13 handicap to take first place. Mike Sissney arrived at these shores there years ago full of character and bloom. Mike continues to impress people who play with him due to his great golf and better stories. Mike took 2nd place shooting 38 points off an 11 handicap. The Dutch Master Gerard Dogge just can't stop picking up prize money. Today Gerard Dogge finished 3rd shooting 38 points off a 13 handicap only losing out to Mike on a count back.
Division 2
it must be a premium time to be from Scotland. Looking how their success in the World Cup has lifted the whole country is such a magnificent sight. Alistair Walker is riding on that euphoric wave as a true Scot as he took first place shooting an unbelievable 45 points off a 19 handicap. Ed O Donnell is now the official Bridesmaid of Travellers Rest with yet another 2nd place. Today shot 39 points off a 15 handicap for the silver medal. Third place went to Richard Shearsby who shot 37 points off a 17 handicap on his first outing on this golf trip.
Another day back in the bar afterwards talking about what could have been. With so many different nationalities in our society, many are dreaming how far their National team will go in the World Cup. Personally I think the Land of Freedom USA are going to shock some of the big boys and go far.

This morning a pair of Agapornis or better known as their common name Lovebirds were seen at a coffee shop in Pattaya. They proceeded to the cinema together to share a special moment in the left handed seats. Rumours have it there was a lot of popping in their seat. Afterwards they decided to head to Travellers Rest to shoot some pool and you'd never know what the night will bring. It just shows that true love is alive and kicking.

lying in bed in hospital feeling sorry for myself, I needed a little pick me up and I definitely got it when I heard that Brad's army stampeded that mob from Hua Hin and let them know we are back. Today Pattaya got off to a flyer winning 6 points to 2 points for a clear lead. No doubt Marty will have all his boys tucked up in bed early tonight and have them on the driving range at 6 am getting them prepared for the second round on Wednesday where we play St. Andrews.

Tomorrow we welcome Travellers Rest Hua Hin for a rematch Ryder Cup challenge. We were handed our arses last November as Hua Hin took us apart. Brad Gale has put a lot of preparation into this and expects nothing less than a victory. Tonight we have some food in the bar for both teams. We will draw out the match pairings for Tuesday at Bangpakong and Thursday at St. Andrews. The final day on Friday is a singles event which will be played at the salubrious Siam Plantation. That is followed up with a gala dinner at Flame Restaurant where the prizes will be handed out. Good luck to all for a friendly and competitive tournament.

Always better to be a trend setter than trend follower is what I was told as a boy and true to form Travellers Rest has definitely started new trends. This month we have a 3 person waltz, 4 day Ryder Cup, weekly visits to Siam golf course, 24 days of singles golf, Monthly Medal strokes competition, 2 person scramble and a trip to Chaing Mai. Now get your laughing gear around that.
Yesterday for the second time we had 3 person Waltz competition. The scoring is one score on the first, two best scores on the second and all three scores on the third. We then repeat the sequence the whole way through. We played at the very difficult St. Andrews where the wind added to the challenge. We had 10 teams, paying the first three places and of course a 2s pot.
The winning team were Emmet Devlin, Paul Lanzetta and Alan Smith. They got of to a terrible start but with the big hitting and even bigger drinking Alan, they made short work of the golf course shooting a magnificent 81 points.
In second place was Ed O'Donnell, Wayne Bridgman and Jason Galvin who thought they had the winning card but after a review of their card, they shot 77 points. it seems that whoever plays with Ed is going to be in the prize money.
Third place went to team of Vagabonds, gypsies and a Democrat. I will leave it up to you to decide which one worse than the other. To make it even worse two of them are Lefties. Robert Moricky, Tim Shilling and Brett Whitaker messed up one hole which cost them victory and with Wayne withering on the last four holes they couldn't catch the leading team.
We only had one birdie on the par 3s which went to Dutch putting maestro Gerard Dogge.
After a visit to Bang Chan for some R and R we headed back to bar where there was way too much alcohol consumed. Nancy provided the entertainment not that any was needed with drunken jibes being thrown at each other. Derek is still in recovery mode from his war wound and had to make a sharp exit. I unfortunately stayed around and when u eventually got home I had a run in with somebody's fist resulting in a trip to the cop shop where the kind boys in blue relieved me of the contents of my wallet. I am not sure which hurts more.... my pride or my eye. Anyway another chapter in the book of life which will never be repeated.
As the saying goes
You can't change the people around you but you can change the people around you.

Like him and very few people do or hate him as many people do ( only joking) but without doubt Richard Stace is the piller of everything that Travellers Rest is about. He can light up the darkest room with his snide remarks. Richard shot a hole in one last Tuesday and was sitting up on top of world. Richard flew home to Australia on Thursday to check up on his beloved Mother who Richard idolizes. Unfortunately his mother took a bad turn and died on Saturday night shattering Richards world. His mother was only four months from celebrating her 100th summer on this earth having been born in 1926. I think I can speak for everyone here Richard and send you our condolences. May your mother rest in peace.

Today the big man upstairs took one of life's greatest characters in the name of Claude Coleman. There is no doubt that Claude squeezed every drop of life on his time on this earth and will be sadly missed by all of his many friends here in Pattaya. Claude had energy levels that would put a man in his 20s to shame and was always last to leave the dance floor on Friday nights at the bar. I don't remember ever that he didn't have that warm and cheeky smile on his face and when you sat down with him over a couple of beers then Claude could spin some amazing tales.
May you rest in peace Claude and thank you for the happy memories.
