“Still Currents” by Krai Sridee

This sound experimental piece attempted to create a soundscape of the slow violence inflicted by state-level industrial projects, such as dams, on the Mekong river. The woven between industrial soundscape and river’s organic ambient collide together in a way that’s interrupted or harmonious, distorted or blended to the point of indistinguishable. This sonic piece reflects the post-Anthropocene epoch where the consequences of our neglect slowly revealed. The death of Lam Saeng may seem still, but it might just be a whisper of the larger internal collapsing of Mekong’s ecosystem, happening quietly and harmoniously.

“Listening to Distance, Listening from Afar” by Manunya

This work explores the experience of being a visitor to the Mekong River, a river stretching 4,350 km across lands and lives. The distance becomes both a marker of connection and separation. The Mekong becomes a site of dreams, love, loss, pain, and the violence of power. Through sound and photography, it creates a space of listening where closeness and distance, memory and reality, love and loss coexist. As a visitor, I return to the Mekong again and again, both physically and in memory.

“1(neung)” by Anaparn (Ānāpān)

The relationship between humans and nature is not merely one of coexistence, but rather of being one and the same. Nature reflects ourselves back to us, revealing change and decay as a natural part of the world, no different from the impermanence of our own bodies and minds.

This sound work embodies this “oneness” between humans and nature through sounds that cannot be distinguished as belonging to one or the other. Human sounds and natural sounds merge into a new sonic landscape, a landscape that embodies the truth of interdependence and the inevitability of transformation.

“Coma” by Yuki Suwansopa

Coma is a multi-channel sound installation that investigates the dissolution of perception at the intersection of ecological collapse and altered states of consciousness. Composed of manipulated recordings of wind and water, the work simulates the auditory experience of a dying organism—where environmental sound is warped through cognitive disintegration and neurochemical disturbance.

The installation draws on the psychoacoustic qualities of DMT-induced states to speculate on how auditory perception might fragment near the threshold of death. Familiar natural elements—waves, gusts, atmospheric pressure—are abstracted and rendered uncanny, proposing a form of listening that is decoupled from human orientation and stability.

Set within an imagined flooded terrain, Coma evokes a liminal perspective: not that of a subject observing nature, but of a sentient presence dissolving within it. It gestures toward a post-anthropocentric auditory field, one shaped by fading memory, submerged consciousness, and the erosion of bodily coherence. In doing so, the work invites reflection on the limits of perception, the instability of subjectivity, and the potential sentience of environments in crisis.

“Lamseang Garden” by Supawich Weesapen, comprises five images shot on film that intentionally distorts color. Each image is layered with a sheet of green glass, working as a filter, creating a sense of estrangement and detachment from the actual atmosphere. The series portrays lamseang trees caught in a half-alive, half-dead state amidst a twisted, distorted landscape. Their relationship with the Mekong River is rendered “othered” through the irregular rhythm of rising and falling waters. In parallel, the work invites viewers to question human notions of beauty often bound to the constructed definition of “nature,” which overlays what lies before us, while also exploring the conflicted emotions we hold toward the green color.
