Some days in Thailand don't need an itinerary.

We came to Sukhothai to be with family as they marked the 100-day remembrance for Grandad. A day of respect, reflection, plenty of conversation... and, as always, a few completely unexpected moments.

Between the ceremony and the smiles, I found a shady spot to escape the afternoon heat, discovered a pair of wonderfully quirky temple guardians that looked ready to burst into conversation, and wrapped up the day with one last photo together before heading home.

That's one of the things I love about life here. Even on days that begin with tradition, there's always room for a little randomness.

Family. Faith. A quiet afternoon. A few surprises.

Only in Thailand...

I don't remember this patrol boat being here last year.

Then again, I wasn't expecting to find a retired Royal Thai Navy patrol boat parked beside the Tha Chin River opposite Wat Rai Khing either.

It immediately took me back to the patrol boats I remember from Australia in the 1970s when Dad was involved in refits. Funny how something as simple as the shape of a hull can wake up memories from fifty years ago.

Thailand has a habit of surprising us. One week it's a quiet lunch by the river. The next, it's a Cold War patrol boat waiting to be explored.

A Quiet Wednesday

Some Wednesdays are about getting work done.

Some are about finding a peaceful corner, taking a few photos, filming a little video, and enjoying the afternoon together.

Chanya always seems to find the best places to pose. I spend most of my time looking through a camera, so she decided it was only fair to turn it back on me for a change.

These little moments rarely make it into the YouTube videos, but they often end up becoming some of our favourite memories.

2070 wasn't about replacing the moment. It was about imagining where it could lead. ✨

Swipe to see the journey: the original photograph, then an AI reimagining of the same scene. The pose stayed, the attitude stayed... but somewhere along the way the AI decided Chanya needed a different face. That's the trade-off with today's generative tools. Sometimes they create magic, sometimes they wander off the map.

I still love the atmosphere though. It's less a photograph and more a postcard sent back from a future that hasn't happened yet.
