After going through the grind and gruel hustling and bustling, K-Jin & K-Lin made a big and bold decision to leave everything behind in Singapore to start a new life in Chiang Mai – with a mission to give back to society. To achieve this, the brother and sister team started to acqui

re and set up businesses that are labour intensive so that they will be able to provide employment to the less privileged from the neighbouring villages and hill tribes. Paak Dang is their first acquisition in Chiang Mai – starting off with a humble team of 4 staff and at its peak grew exponentially to a team of more than 30 staff. The big feather in their cap was when Paak Dang was awarded the Michelin Plate 2 years running before Covid hit. Unfortunately, at the height of the pandemic, Paak Dang had to make the difficult decision to close their Red Doors in 2020. In October 2022, Paak Dang found a home for a Bigger, Better & Bolder Paak Dang and is now back to continue their mission of "changing even more lives"! With a wealth of experience between them, K-Jin & K-Lin both work hand in hand to equip the staff at Paak Dang with many important life skills. This will hopefully then enable their staff to secure their future and extract themselves from the poverty trap that many are caught in. Aiming for the ‘ripple effect’, the brother and sister team would like the benefits to trickle down to their extended families back home. Besides formal and on the job training, all the staff at Paak Dang are taught basic English & Mandarin. K-Lin, who has been awarded the “Successful Entrepreneur” award in Singapore also imparts useful business, management and accounting skills to the staffs’ overall development. Last but not least, as an NLP-trained life and career coach, she also ensures that each and every staff understands the importance of goal-setting and financial planning.

When he first joined us at Paak Dang, he didn’t just come here for a job.

Over time, he upgraded his skills, grew in confidence, and became an important part of our front-of-house team. But more importantly beyond work, he has found…

A safe environment.
A sense of belonging.
And people who genuinely care.

This is exactly what “changing lives” has meant to us for more than 10 years.

It has never been just about food.

It has always been about our people.

Over the last decade, we have had the privilege of helping many individuals in similar situations rebuild their lives, develop new skills, and create a better future for themselves and their families.

This week, seeing Paak Dang featured in CNA Luxury as part of a story about Singaporeans who chose Chiang Mai as home felt incredibly meaningful.

More than a decade ago, I made a decision that didn’t make much sense to many people.

I left Singapore with 2 kids in tow and chose to build a life in Chiang Mai.

At the time, I didn’t have a grand plan. I simply wanted something different… a slower pace, more space to breathe, and a better quality of life for the kids.

That decision eventually led to starting Paak Dang.

What started as a small riverside restaurant slowly became something far more special than I ever imagined. Over the last 10 years, it has grown into a place where people from all over the world gather to share meals, stories, and moments together.

But more importantly, it has also been a place where lives quietly change.

Young people who needed a chance.
Team members who became family.
Guests who return year after year.

Because Paak Dang was never just about a restaurant.

It has always been about people and about quietly changing lives one dish at a time.

Paak Dang is proof that sometimes the boldest choices in life create the most meaningful journeys.
