𝗧𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧! – 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲
⠀
Stella Space returns to Smalls with saxophonist Taweesak “Pipe” Booranapanitpan leading the quartet through modern jazz shaped by a deep connection to the music of John Coltrane.
⠀
Pipe’s relationship with Coltrane’s music runs especially deep. His graduate work at Mahidol focused on A Love Supreme, examining Coltrane’s improvisational language as well as the music itself. That influence remains part of Stella Space’s identity, with the band exploring open improvisation, contemporary jazz and strong ensemble interaction rather than simply reproducing the original recordings.
⠀
In 2026, Stella Space brought that connection directly to the stage with an A Love Supreme performance for International Jazz Day in Bangkok. The current quartet brings together Pipe with bassist Sorakrich “Toop” Suwarathananat, drummer Sirawit “Oat” Phattarakittisophon and pianist Sahassanant “Zing” Vetchapitak.

𝗧𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧! – Pathorn Srikaranonda Quartet

Pathorn Srikaranonda returns to Smalls leading a quartet that brings together four musicians with deep connections to Thailand’s jazz scene, from international performance and recording projects to university-level music education.

Pathorn is a Thai saxophonist, composer and educator whose career has taken him to concert halls and festivals in more than 30 countries. For more than three decades, he performed with the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Au-Sau Friday Band, one of the most important institutions in the history of jazz in Thailand. His international collaborations have included musicians such as Benny Carter, Jimmy Heath and David Liebman, as well as artists from the New Orleans jazz tradition.

He studied composition and saxophone performance at the University of Michigan, continued his composition studies at Yale University, and earned his doctorate in Music Composition from the University of Edinburgh. Alongside his work as a performer and composer, Pathorn has played a major role in jazz and saxophone education in Thailand. He is the founding president of the Saxophone Association Thailand and currently serves as Director of Jazz at MUSE [X] Academy.

𝗧𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧! – 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗿 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝘁!

Chilean drummer, composer and bandleader Cristóbal Tobar returns to Smalls with the Bangkok edition of his quartet, bringing together jazz, funk, soul and the groove-heavy side of his own writing.

Born in Santiago, Cristóbal studied drums at Universidad ARCIS and developed across several parts of Chile’s music scene at once. He became a regular around Santiago jazz clubs while also working with artists including Pedropiedra, Mariel Mariel, Daniela Spalla, Andrés Landon, Álex Ferreira, Javier Barría and Tiro de Gracia. His touring and session work later took him through Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Spain and the United States.

🥁 His own music has always leaned heavily toward rhythm. Cristóbal formed Nasty Trío in Santiago as a jazz-funk project, releasing Sucio y Sensual in 2017 and Palabra Cero in 2022. The latter mixed his original compositions with dub, post-rock and R&B influences alongside jazz.

His repertoire also reaches back into Grant Green, Kool & The Gang, Duke Ellington, Boogaloo Joe Jones and other material where jazz and groove comfortably share the same space.

In 2025, a live recording of the Cristóbal Tobar Cuarteto captured another side of the project, pairing his originals with music by Grant Green, Nat Simon, Duke Ellington and Kool & The Gang. The personnel can change from country to country, but the idea stays centered on Cristóbal’s drumming, groove and arrangements.

🎼 The Bangkok Lineup
🥁 Cristóbal Tobar — Drums
🎸 Kaiah — Guitar
🎹 Team — Keyboards
🎻 Guy — Double Bass

𝗧𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧! – 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶 𝗩𝗼𝗹. 𝟯

Trioventi Vol. 3 brings together trumpeter and flugelhorn player Wazin “Junior” Chaiprasert, guitarist Patiphan “Zen” Asawakanjana and drummer Tristan Josh “TJ” Trinidad for a trio built around modern jazz, original music and collective improvisation.

Trioventi first grew out of Junior’s Master’s Jazz Trumpet Recital, with Zen and TJ already forming the guitar-and-drums side of the trio. The project continued through Trioventi Vol. 2 and into the current Vol. 3 lineup, giving the three musicians an established working relationship rather than bringing them together for a one-off date. At Smalls, the trio appeared in the Three4Bop performance in November 2025, before returning under the Trioventi Vol. 3 name in March 2026.

Junior has appeared here with Dikon Poptet and Muddy Man, while TJ has worked and recorded with musicians including Warit Techakanont and Natt Buntita. Zen, Junior and TJ also share strong links through Thailand’s university jazz community, particularly Mahidol, giving the group both a shared musical language and enough different experience to keep the trio open and unpredictable.

Trioventi approaches jazz standards through new arrangements while also bringing original compositions into the set. With no bass or piano, the trumpet/flugelhorn, guitar and drums format leaves plenty of space for each musician to shape the harmony, rhythm and direction of the music in real time.
