This Friday, we celebrate the life of a great talent from centuries ago: the original rebel, whose tongue was always in his (and ladies’) cheeks, the nation’s greatest functional alcoholic, Sunthorn Phu.

We will hold a poem-writing contest where everyone is a winner, and the prize will be something the man himself would be jealous of. (Alcohol-related, hehe.)

And finally, the long-awaited Dek-Cheer-Beer will be there. So congrats, fellas—we did it.

ซอยสองพระ ซอยเล็กๆ ที่เชื่อมระหว่างพระรามสี่กับสี่พระยาซึ่งปกติจะถูกใช้เป็นซอยลัดเลี่ยงรถติดเพื่อออกไปถนนใหญ่มากกว่าจะมีร้านอะไรให้แวะ แต่คุณซันและคุณฟู ลูกชายเจ้าของร้านขายเครื่องมือช่างที่อยู่ในซอยนี้ กำลังทำให้ซอยสองพระน่าแวะขึ้นด้วยการเปลี่ยนโกดังเก็บสินค้าเก่าของที่บ้านให้กลาย neighborhood bar แห่งเดียวในรัศมีหนึ่งกิโลเมตรจากย่านนี้
จากตึกแถวเก่าโทรมๆ อายุราว 50-60 ปี ถูกชุบชีวิตให้ดูสะดุดตาขึ้นด้วยการตกแต่งที่ผสมผสานทั้งความวินเทจ กลิ่นอายแบบไทยเจือจีนจางๆ แซมไวบ์แบบ tropical bar หน่อยๆ และยังใช้เฟอร์นิเจอร์มือสองที่เป็นของสะสมของคุณแม่ ทำให้ร้านมีทั้งความเก่าและใหม่อยู่ปนกันอย่างลงตัว ซึ่งรวมๆ แล้วสองพี่น้องเรียกว่าสไตล์ Thai Renaissance
คุณซันตั้งชื่อใหม่ให้อดีตโกดังแห่งนี้ว่า Sontaya Society หรือ ‘สนธยา สมาคม’ เพราะเป็นชื่อที่สื่อถึงการชวนเพื่อนออกมาแฮงเอาต์ที่บาร์ได้ดี และเวลาเปิดร้านก็เป็นช่วงสนธยาหรือตอนกำลังโพล้เพล้ ส่วนในแง่ของภาษา ‘สนธยา สมาคม’ ก็เป็นชื่อที่ติดหู จำง่าย และมีสัมผัสอักษรที่ดีทั้งภาษาไทยและอังกฤษ

We must admit that was better than expected! Shout out to everyone who was involved in that fateful day and night!

It’s our first time holding an event, and all the while a lot of things can be improved, we don’t think it can be any better!
