Following the dramatic Round 2 match at the 2026 US Open, where Mickey Krause secured a thrilling 9–8 comeback victory over Darren Appleton, the choice of chalk became a major talking point.

Darren Appleton heavily criticised Mickey Krause’s use of Master chalk, and Dr Dave has since released an interesting experimental video comparing the effects of regular chalk versus “premium” chalk.

So, which side are you on?

Team Mickey Krause
Do you prefer the traditional style of chalk? And do you think using a different chalk can give you a psychological edge by getting into your opponent’s head?

Or Team Darren Appleton
Should players use premium chalk to ensure the best possible playing conditions?

Either way, it could be an uphill battle for tournament organisers to enforce a standard, and they will ultimately have to allow players to use their preferred choice of chalk.

What do you think?
