Dear fellow Beasts,
It’s been 8 years since we opened our barn doors to bring you a slice of the American South. The lease at our current space is ending soon and sadly, we have decided not to renew our lease. Our last day of operations will be 10 November 2021.
It has been a wonderful journey feeding you and drinking with you. From our infamous street parties to open mic sessions where you’d never know what you’d get (an Austrian opera singer, folksy Southern tunes, a sitar player.. the variety was incredible), to our weekly live performances from our homegrown local acts. We look forward to the day we can watch you guys perform in the flesh, when live music is allowed once again.
We’re proud to be the OG Chicken & Waffles in Singapore, before it became a ubiquitous dish in cafes all over the island. We’ve had many of the top competitive eaters in the world challenge our monstrous Beast burger, we’ve tested our arm strength seeing who could hold 1 liter beer mugs the longest for Oktoberfest, we’ve celebrated National Day with Nasi Lemak burgers, Independance Day with outdoor BBQ and fancy hotdogs, Thanksgiving with family style meals, and more. Feast like a Beast – that we definitely did, over the years.
To everyone who has been a part of The Beast’s community - it has been a pleasure knowing you guys. There have been connections, friendships and babies made because of The Beast and this is something that will last a lifetime.
We always thought that should the day come where we would close, that we would throw a huge farewell party to celebrate. While this is not possible in this current climate, in its place we will be running a 1-for-1 Chicken & Waffles promo, from now all the way till our last day to thank you guys for your support all these years. Simply flash this message to our staff to redeem.
Covid was the mother of all beasts that made it impossible to run our place the way we wanted to.
Social distancing between tables cut our number of tables by 25%. With the remaining seats left, our capacity has been further reduced by 66% as a table that used to hold 6 people can now only seat 2.
Without live music, without intermingling, with the 10.30pm no alcohol rule, with not even background music allowed, with our outdoor area soon to be taken away to be converted into a cycling path, the essence and heart of The Beast has been lost. We could go on and on about all the difficulties and obstacles we’ve faced in this period, including our issues with our landlord, but we choose to focus on the positive, and instead of bemoaning our situation, we plan to take this as a time for the team to regroup and to focus our energies on other projects.
To all the other F&B establishments, hang in there and to anyone who is still reading this, please continue to support our local F&B scene.
Stay safe and take care of yourselves.
See y’all later!
❤️The Beasts
