Is this glass?
Most people think it is.
At 9 Cuscaden Road, the transparent edge of this cantilevered pool creates a striking illusion: water appearing to float above the space below as swimmers are high in the sky.
But the panel is not glass. It is custom PMMA acrylic.
Acrylic was fabricated for this feature because transparency alone is never the full requirement. The material also needed to perform under the water's weight, support the visual intent of the cantilevered design, maintain optical clarity and withstand long-term exposure in a high-use hospitality environment.
The result is simple to look at, but far more complex to engineer.
