Dear friends, employees, collaborators, and guests,
It is with immense gratitude and a heavy heart that we announce that Whippet Lab will close its doors permanently from May 11th. What began as a wild idea to have a microbrewery in a restaurant that serves (mostly) vegetarian food and caters to all-inclusive social justice platform & dog people created a bit of history in our corner of Södermalm. So, closing Whippet has been an impossibly difficult decision. Independent bars, restaurants, and breweries like ours have been hit extremely hard since the pandemic by a wave of insurmountable economic challenges. Try as we might, our wild little idea is no longer sustainable in the face of them.
We are sad and already nostalgic after nearly 7 years of your wonderful and inspiring birthdays, doctoral dinners, weddings, first dates, book releases, q***r comedy shows, film screenings, atmosq***r parties, political/climate/NGO events and panels, drag queen bingos, leather socials, d**e marches, and all the fabulous pride hijinks. We are extremely humbled that you chose Whippet to celebrate these key life events and to hatch new ideas to fight the status quo. We could not have created such a strong sense of community or realized our vision without all of you. Enormous love and gratitude goes out to all of you who invested in us (you know who you are ❤️)…your trust in us and belief in the project made the idea come to life! We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to our staff, past and present, who worked tirelessly to keep the Whippet Lab vision alive and making it an oasis for its guests. Without you, Whippet would never been so beloved nor survived this long—you are all amazing! Thanks also to the many brewers and distillers, small producers and importers, and independent bars, restaurants, and clubs that have collaborated with us over the years. Collaborations like these give power to the phrase: “Support small businesses, support your local.”
🌈DETAILS: Open as normal until May 3rd, then closed until the blowout FAREWELL WHIPPET FEST May 10th. So, come raise a glass, eat a meal, and say your goodbyes during the next few weeks.
