This Winesday we're popping open a Pinot Blanc Champagne by Brocard Pierre. A rare opportunity to try a Champagne made from something other than Chardonnay, Meunier or Pinot Noir. And a superb chance to try a Champagne made in Côte des Bar, which is on the edge of Champagne area and right on the border with Chablis.

Expecting mango and pineapple on the nose with a dry and saline finish.

Winesday is here, again! 🥂

Today we open this Alsatian Riesling from a tiny parcel in Turckheim. They make it as if it's a Champagne base wine, then bottle it without a second fermentation.

It feels as decadent as a Champagne. Only without bubbles. And... it's a Riesling. But you get the point.

This wine survived the late-April frost of 2016 in Northern France.

When that cold came through the Jura overnight, a lot of growers lost most of their crops. The grapes that made it at Domaine de la Borde in Pupillin got pressed and put into an old foudre. Julien Marechal, the winemaker, didn't top the barrel up and didn't rack it. The wine slowly evaporated under a thin film of wild yeast called the voile, and stayed like that for six and a half years.

About 38cl of every liter disappeared into the cellar air. The wine comes in a traditional 62cl clavelin Vin Jaune bottle — it holds what's left.

It's dry, very salty, with a long finish. Tastes of walnut, bruised apple, and curry leaf. Served this Winesday, on April 22.
