It’s with sadness and appreciation that we announce The Bayou has officially closed its doors. An unexpectedly difficult decision, but I want to thank everyone who stood by us these past two years and made this journey deeply meaningful.

What began as a passion project to share my Louisiana roots and Southern hospitality with Lisbon became far more than I ever imagined. The Bayou was never just a bar to me. It was a piece of home, built on culture, music, food, and the belief that when you open your doors with heart, strangers can become family.

From renovations and decor to the day we opened and everything in between, it has been an unforgettable ride. From vampire Halloween parties and Mardi Gras celebrations, to New Orleans jazz drifting out into the streets of Rua Poiais, beignets dusted in powdered sugar, and Sazeracs and Hurricanes poured with pride. I will forever treasure how wholeheartedly y’all embraced Louisiana’s “let the good times roll” spirit. And for those who remember the first summer before we had AC … thank you for sweating it out with us. For a brief moment, it truly felt like the Louisiana swamps, and you still showed anyway.

I’m incredibly proud of what we built together. As a business owner I am extremely proud of our 4.9 Google rating and for the love shown for our New Orleans cocktails. Seeing people come back again and again for a Sazerac, a Hurricane, Hand Gr***de, or something newly created it meant more to me than you’ll know.

What I will hold closest are the people. I met incredible souls from all over the world, and friendships formed within these walls will continue long after our doors have closed. The memories created here and the culture we shared will always live on.

While this chapter is coming to an end, the story is not. I remain committed to sharing Louisiana culture in Europe, and I’m already planning further events, food and drink pairings, and special Bayou moments, so please continue to follow us and stay tuned.

Thank you, truly, for the love, the support, and for letting The Bayou be part of your lives and weekends. This isn’t goodbye…Laissez les bons temp rouler, always.

Bayou love & mine,

Raegan

They say in Louisiana, the line between the living and the dead is paper-thin.

New Orleans has always been a city of spirits born from centuries of cultures colliding.

Voodoo came to Louisiana through enslaved Africans and Haitian refugees in the 1700s.

It mixed with Catholic saints and Creole mysticism becoming something uniquely New Orleans. A faith of rhythm, roots, and reverence. Candles, offerings, the power of Marie Laveau, the legendary Voodoo Queen who healed, blessed, and terrified the city in equal measure.

But while the faithful prayed in candlelight, others whispered of creatures who drank it … the undead.

The story of Jacques St. Germain, the elegant Frenchman who never aged and never ate in public, still haunts the French Quarter. They say he lives on in every stranger who smiles just a little too long.

Out in the Louisiana bayous, where the cypress trees breathe and the fog never lifts, old tales tell of vampires drifting with the mist hiding in the swamps, feeding under the moss, vanishing before dawn.

In Louisiana, faith and folklore are forever entwined. The living honor the dead and sometimes, the dead return the favor.

But this Halloween, those spirits rise again … in Lisbon.

The Bayou transforms into a den of Voodoo & Vampires — where red lights flicker, cocktails bleed, and the music wakes the dead.

Expect blood-bag drinks, haunting sounds, games of chance, and a prize for the best-dressed creature of the night.

Come as you are or come undead.
Fangs, velvet, lace and of course mortals welcome too.

Join us, and dance till the spirits rest.

Rock You Like A Hurricane

Back in the 1940s, New Orleans’ Pat O’Brien had a problem: liquor distributors were forcing him to buy cases of rum to get the whiskey he really wanted. So, like any good NOLA bartender, he turned lemons into… passion fruit juice.

Mixing up a tropical blend of rum, citrus, and passion fruit, he served it in a curvy glass shaped like a hurricane lamp – perfect for the French Quarter’s wild nights and even wilder weather.

The Hurricane became an instant Bourbon Street legend – strong enough to blow you away, sweet enough to keep you coming back.

Still served at Pat O’s on Bourbon Street in New Orleans – but fair warning: one might make you dance, two might make you sing, and three will make you tell strangers your life story.

Try one in Lisbon at our cozy Louisiana bar.

Bayou Fam, please join us on Saturday March 1 to celebrate Mardi Gras and our 1 year Anniversary. It’s been quite a ride and it would not have been possible without the support and loyalty from our lovely Bayou community.

To celebrate this milestone we will have traditional Mardi Gras flare, a DJ, specials on Hurricanes and Hand Gr***des, and a party like Louisianians do … so grab some beads and join us March 1 down at The Bayou!
