"Focus. Strategy. Discipline. Emotional control. The ability to stay calm under pressure and think three moves ahead."
- Robbie Capito
โWhy do you play pool? Only delinquents do that.โ
Every pool player has heard some version of this. Once, twice, or so many times it started to feel true. I know there are young players out there who feel ashamed to tell their family what they love. Kids who hide it. Players who are forbidden from going to the pool hall because of what people assume happens there. The image of pool has kept talented, passionate people from ever picking up a cue, and that is a real loss.
And honestly? That reputation didnโt come from nowhere. There IS a dark side to every sport, every community, every room. Pool is no different.
But here is what people refuse to see.
China has introduced cue sports into schools. Not because itโs a delinquent activity, but because educators recognised what the game actually develops. Focus. Strategy. Discipline. Emotional control. The ability to stay calm under pressure and think three moves ahead.
And if you donโt believe the classroom, look around the pool hall. I have met doctors, engineers, lawyers, entrepreneurs and everyday workers all standing around the same table, speaking the same language. No hierarchy. No judgment. Just the game. Pool has a unique ability to connect people from completely different walks of life in a way very few things can.
The professional players? Some of the most humble, friendly and grounded people I have ever met. And they are not alone, even Joe Rogan, one of the most recognised voices in the world, is a proud pool player.
The sport has grown far beyond what it was. The problem is the story hasnโt caught up yet.
So this is me doing my part to change that.
If you play pool, be proud of it. At whatever level you are. Because you are part of a sport that builds character, creates community and connects the world one rack at a time.
The delinquents turned out just fine.
