The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Davao del Sur Chapter hosted a dialogue and focused group discussion on the security risks and safety of the Bench and Bar on December 15, 2025, held at Ascencia’s Restojam in Digos City, Davao del Sur, as part of an initiative of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. The activity gathered judges, prosecutors, PAO lawyers, clerks of court, and representatives from law enforcement agencies, providing a venue for a meaningful and constructive exchange on security concerns affecting members of the Bench and Bar in Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental.
The activity was made especially meaningful by the presence of the Deputy Marshal for Mindanao, Deputy Marshal Eric B. Distor, who discussed the functions and mandate of the newly created Office of the Judiciary Marshal. His discussion provided valuable insights into the institutional mechanisms to address emerging security challenges faced by courts and legal practitioners.
The IBP likewise extends its sincere appreciation to Atty. Kyrie Dea Maia G. Morente, Regional Court Manager for the 11th Judicial Region, who presented important updates on judicial decentralization, emphasizing reforms aimed at improving court administration, efficiency, and accessibility.
The IBP Davao del Sur Chapter is deeply grateful to the Honorable Judges from the provinces of Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental for their invaluable participation and support, particularly Vice Executive Judge Hon. Carmelita Sarno Davin, Hon. Alexander B. Yarra, Hon. Anita Mabuti-Fernandez, Hon. Cheryll Ann C. Chamen-Paronda, Hon. Mylen A. Anito-Guhiling, Hon. Bambeth Mahal C. Jambangan-Diez, Hon. Sol Marie Gawiden, Hon. Sylvia Patricia D.C. Sarmiento-Castillo, and Hon. Marie Jean B. Merañez. Their presence and insights greatly contributed to the depth and relevance of the discussions.
The Chapter also extends its heartfelt thanks to Executive Judge Maria Fe Orig Maloloy-on and Executive Clerk of Court Atty. Hazel Beth D. Orcullo Goc-ong for their invaluable coordination and support in ensuring the successful conduct of the activity. Appreciation is likewise extended to Atty. Alan Rhenz Tizon, who served as co-facilitator of the dialogue, helping guide the discussions toward collaborative outcomes.
