From the shores of Northern Palawan, has just landed in The Beer Coop.

The first craft brewery in Coron has been serving a good variety of beers to locals and visitors to the island alike. Several of its beer are named after Japanese ships that saw service in the Philippines and sank in Coron Bay. Olympia Maru, Irako, Akitsushima are familiar dive sites for enthusiasts in the area, with these old wrecks ripe for exploration.

So, learn a bit of history while sipping these six beers. Drop by the Coop and check them out.

Often, a beer will be described as having “chocolate notes.” That doesn’t mean that it actually has chocolate in it! Dark beers are made with roasted malts, and their flavor tends to resemble other typically roasted ingredients, like coffee and chocolate.

There are beers, though, that do use chocolate as an ingredient. Hoppyside from Baler uses real cacao nibs from the province to lend the beer a more distinct chocolate taste. Either way, chocoholics might like to try out a dark beer to satisfy their cravings.

The word “lager” (pronounced LAH-ger) is taken from the German word for “storage.” Typically, a lager is matured in tanks at low temperatures. This extra time spent in tanks (also known as “lagering”) generally results in clear, clean-tasting beer.

Most of the commercial beers you know are lagers. At the Coop, we have lagers of all kinds from all over the country. Try Apolong’s German Pilsner for a sharp, crispy bite. Palm Tree Abbey’s Vienna Waits For You is a sweeter style of lager with biscuit notes. Elias’ Palay Pils is a rice lager, the added grain used to give the beer a dryer finish. Try a lager today.
