🥃 Not every whiskey is bourbon—but every bourbon is whiskey.
So what exactly makes a bourbon a bourbon?
To legally be called bourbon, it must meet these requirements:
🌽 At least 51% corn in the mash bill.
🛢️ Aged in brand-new, charred oak barrels—never reused.
🇺🇸 Made in the United States. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't have to come from Kentucky.
💧 Distilled to no more than 160 proof (80% ABV) and entered into the barrel at no more than 125 proof (62.5% ABV).
🥃 Bottled at a minimum of 80 proof (40% ABV).
These rules help preserve the identity and quality of bourbon, making it one of the most distinctive whiskey styles in the world.
