I didn’t become a freediving instructor because it was the easiest path. I became one because I saw too many locals standing on the shore, watching others explore the ocean they had grown up beside.

For years, many Filipinos believed freediving was mostly for tourists, foreigners, or people who could afford expensive courses. That never sat right with me. How could we become strangers to our own sea?

Every time I coach, I don’t just teach breath-holds, equalization, or technique. I help people rediscover that the ocean belongs to them too. I want local kids, fishermen’s sons and daughters, students, and hardworking Filipinos to realize that the world travels here because what we have is extraordinary.

Moalboal isn’t just a destination. It’s our home.

My mission has never been to compete with anyone. It’s to build local capacity, create opportunities, and prove that Filipino instructors can lead with world-class standards, professionalism, and heart.

When we empower our own people, we protect more than livelihoods-we protect our culture, our reefs, and the future of our community.

The Philippines is for Filipinos. Not as a statement of exclusion, but as a reminder that we should never lose our place in the waters that have always been ours. And when we stand proudly as professionals in our own hometowns, everyone benefits-locals, visitors, and the ocean we all share.
