On October 20, The Spirits Library has The Boutique-y Wh**ky Company tasting — and the lineup is not one to overlook.

Leading the evening is Simon McGoram, Regional Sales Manager Asia Pacific at Atom Brands. 25 years across the bar and liquor industry as an award-winning bartender, drinks writer, brand ambassador, and bar owner.

The highlight of the night is the TBWC Willowbank Batch 2, 18 Year Old, a blended wh**ky from one of the world’s most southerly distilleries, long since closed in 1997. Matured in ex-red w**e casks, it carries intense dark fruit, blackberry, chocolate, to***co, and wood. Bottled at 50.5% and getting rarer by the year.

Alongside it, a full lineup of TBWC expressions including:

The Old Man was one of the first bars to ever land on the 50 Best list, and it remains one of the most respected names in Asia. During the guestshift, Alvin brought five drinks from that bar to our shelves, including our first collaboration with a local gin.

For a Moment Only, The Sun Also Rises, First Light, and one drink revived from The Old Man’s earlier menu, Snows of Kilimanjaro.

It was a warm, shot-filled kind of evening, and a rare look at how a bar of that caliber works up close. Same bar, same glasses, a slightly different energy in the room.

Five and a half years ago, Alvin Lee was just a regular at The Old Man. Then a bartender told him to send in his CV, and the rest is history.

We sat down with him before his guest shift to talk about the bar’s early days on the 50 Best list, and the menu he brought us: five drinks, including a first-time collaboration with a local gin and one pulled straight from The Old Man’s old menu.
