THE HISTORY of LPC
LEAH'S PASALUBONG CENTER (LPC) started out in a rented place and called Lucban Sweets on M.L. Tagarao St. Lucena City way back in 1973. It is owned by Spouses Lope and Zeny Papa until this day.
Today, LPC occupies its own building on a rented lot at Gomez St. still in their adopted city, Lucena. The Spouses trace their roots from the Province of Laguna but are permanent residents now of Lucena City since 1970.
Mr. Lope Papa was a former detailman, now more popularly known as a sales-rep/med-rep, of MeadJohnson Phil. As a seasoned salesman, he used his natural skills to initially sell local delicacies like candied condol, different variants of the local pastillas and other food-item "PASALUBONG" one typically brings home from the Province of Quezon. He initially supplied these to MAZAPAN SWEETS until he was later able to put up his own LUCBAN SWEETS. Mr. Africa, owner and proprietor of Mazapan Sweets of Sariaya, collaborated with him to produce their own BROAS (lady-fingers) that started a long business relationship.
Lucban Sweets was later re-named Leah's Pasalubong Center after their youngest daughter and to combine an off-shoot business, a bakery, Leah's Bakery, that also served as factory of most of the pasalubong items they sell. It used to be co-managed by Mr. Lope Papa's younger sister, Ms. Edith Papa-Serrano who now owns and manages her own similar business. Leah, the store's name-sake, took the reigns soon after.
Now, on our 43rd year in business, as Leah rests for some personal respite and pursuits, the eldest daughter, Lenny, will try her hands to continue their parents' LEGACY.
