Ever wondered why pool balls go from 1 to 15 — and why the stripes start at 9? 🎱
Here’s the fun part: the numbering and colors were actually standardized in the late 1800s by billiard manufacturers so that players everywhere could recognize the game instantly, no matter where they played.
Solids 1–7, the iconic 8-ball, then stripes 9–15. Even the colors follow a fixed order: yellow, blue, red, purple, orange, green, maroon — then it repeats on the stripes! 🎨
So next time you rack up, you’re playing a system that’s over 100 years old. Pretty cool, right?
