We never imagined that election results could be this painful. Our souls were crushed and our hearts were broken 💔

But the MAJORITY HAS SPOKEN and when all is said and done, at the heart of it all, we are all fighting for a better Philippines.

The passion and commitment shown by volunteers and supporters - regardless of affiliation, age, gender, and status - is something that will never be forgotten.

As we move forward, may we not let the fire that's been lit inside of us be extinguished nor dampened.

The election result is not the end of this journey. Illiteracy, poverty, the lack of food security, pollution, etc., are only among the many problems our beloved nation constantly battles with.

We grieve, we rest, then we get back and fight the good fight again.

As UP Iloilo Chancellor Clement C. Camposano said it to the 15+ million who are hurting right now, "That pain you feel is proof that your love is real".

For this week's feature, we are making an exception from our usual color palette so we can all get to know more about the Woman of the Hour.

In a world where women and minorities continue to fight for equal rights, it's a true gem when one gets to a place where they can make true and lasting impact. And while this is true, it's not to say it'll be easy.

Being in a position of power for a woman holds more challenge than a man. Not because she is incapable, but because many 'believe' her to be such.

And all the more challenging when you are the second most powerful person of the state; LENI ROBREDO, ladies and gentlemen.

After passing the bar, she became a coordinator for a Naga-based legal assistance group aimed at helping those in rural areas and the marginalized communities.

While serving in congress, she co-authored bills that aimed to give more power to the common man; to allow for equal treatment of everyone, regardless of gender and ethnicity.

As Vice-President, her office was one of the many go-to for people seeking and extending help during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. They helped manage allocation of resources through will and perseverance.

With the upcoming presidential elections and Leni running for the highest office, bashing and unfounded stories abound. And yet, despite all these "horrors", I am relieved to not have heard of many people not supporting Leni "just because she's a woman".

For us in Love Maya PH, Leni Robredo is the epitome that EVERY WOMAN CAN.

They say: “Do what you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.”

Now, imagine being able to “work” as an advocate for causes that you really feel strongly for. How fulfilling would that be!

Case in point: Antoinette Taus.

When you hear the name, many of us think of her as Bianca in T.G.I.S (yes, circa 1995). But did you know that she currently serves as the National Goodwill Ambassador for the Philippines by the UN Environment Programme? Or that she also founded CORA (Communities Organized for Resource Allocation)? On their website: “…a non-profit organization dedicated to creating sustainable programs to help solve global issues centered on hunger, poverty, inequality, and climate change.”

I love seeing how many of these non-profit orgs are spearheaded by women. Not because I think we’re “better than men”, but it goes to show that we’re no longer silent. That, though we have a long, long way to go, many of us have bravely put themselves out there — fighting for what we believe in and giving voice to those who can’t speak — and people are paying attention.
