We are excited to welcome Alexander Apóstol to the gallery’s program.
Alexander Apóstol (b. 1969 Barquisimeto, Venezuela) lives and works between Caracas and Madrid. His work has been presented in international events including the 16th Bienal de Cuenca, Ecuador (Ferran Barenblit, 2023); “EVA International”, Ireland, (Inti Guerrero, 2018); 12th Shanghai Biennial (Cuauhtémoc Medina, 2018); 12th Gwangju Biennial (Clara Kim, 2018); the 54th Venice Biennale (2011), Istanbul Biennial (Dan Cameron 2003); Bienal de São Paulo (Alfons Hug, 2002) among many others.
Alexander Apóstol’s solo shows include: “Postura y geometría en la era de la autocracia tropical”, CA2M, Madrid (Manuel Segade); MUAC, Mexico City (Cuauhtémoc Medina); MAMBO, Bogotá (Eugenio Viola); “Salida de los obreros del museo”, MALBA, Buenos Aires (Agustín Perez Rubio); “Ser latino es estar lejos”, Universidad Iberoamericana, Ciudad Mexico (José Luis Barrios); etc. He has also been featured in group exhibitions such as: “Under The Same Sun”, the Guggenheim Museum, New York (Pablo León de La Barra); “Revisión”, Denver Museum (Jorge Rivas); “Photographic Typologies”, Tate Modern (Rachel Taylor); Americana, PAMM Miami (Tobias Ostrander 2013); “Historias Latinoamericanas”, MASP Sao Paulo (Julieta González); and other group exhibitions.
His works are part of important public and private collections, such as the Tate Modern, London; the Guggenheim Museum, New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; Pérez Art Museum, Miami; MUAC, Mexico City; Colección Cisneros, Caracas; Museo Banco de la República, Bogotá; MALI, Lima; Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation CIFO, Miami; Fundación ARCO, Madrid; Denver Art Museum; Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles and more.
He has also received fellowships from institutions such as the Smithsonian Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation.
