Happy International Beer Day from Wānaka! 🍻

We’re toasting with a cold Brewski — the beer that started it all back in 1998. Crisp, clean, and brewed right here with alpine spring water and a whole lot of local pride.

Cheers to great beer, good company, and 26 years of doing what we love.

🔥 Hayden turns 40 today — and he’s still fermenting nicely. 🔥

Since joining Wānaka Beerworks in 2017, he’s brewed some absolute bangers, wrangled more hoses than we can count, and laughed the most contagious laugh every damn day.

We’re stoked to have him at the helm of the brewhouse. Happy 40th, Hayden, we’re raising a glass (or two) today to celebrate not just a milestone birthday, but nearly 7 years of beers and belly laughs!

Meet Hayden Bulluss — Head Brewer at Beerworks

Q: Best winter brew?
Ruby Island, Red IPA - hands down. Rich, complex malts, an assertive bitterness, and a punch of NZ hops to tie it all together. Plus, the colour's mean — it's basically après-ski in a glass.

Q: Favourite winter activity?
Snowboarding at Cardies on a proper pow day… or kicking back with a few Ruby Islands. Depends how the legs are feeling!

Q: Why visit Wanaka Beerworks this winter?
The history alone — we’re the oldest independent brewery still operating in Central Otago. We’re still brewing Brewski, the very first beer made here back in 1998, true to the original recipe. Still using the original gear, too. And hey, the brewer doesn’t look too bad in overalls on a brew day.

More Gornzie action! Super Liquor Hokitika has the goods! 🎣🚁

Well the wait is over!! Introducing The Gornzie... West Coast Dark and Stormy!! Yummy Ginger Beer from the Wanaka Brewery and Planteray Original Dark Rum. Gornzie was born by a group of friends in the heart of South Westland wanting to make their favorite beverage portable to take on white baiting, gold mining, farming and helicopter adventures!
