Marlborough Cricket is deeply saddened by the recent passing of former senior mens rep captain Cleighten Cornelius ("Corn") following a battle with cancer.

Known for playing first class cricket for Canterbury between 2001 and 2005, Cleighten also played both junior and senior club and representative cricket in his home region of Marlborough, including a Hawke Cup challenge against Manawatu in 2010.

Cleighten is remembered as a character both on and off the field, and his passing will be deeply felt across the wider Marlborough and New Zealand cricket communities.

Our thoughts are with Cleighten's family and friends at this very difficult time.

A private cremation has taken place with a celebration of Cleighten’s life to be held on Friday 17 April 2026 at the Function Centre, State Highway 1, Riverlands, Blenheim at 2pm.

Dress Code: “What would Corn do?"

The service will be recorded and can be viewed on the Cloudy Bay Funeral Services Website on Friday evening.
