At Schnappa Rock Restaurant and Bar we pride ourselves in using local produce to provide diners with a "Pacific" orientated eating experience in a relaxed atmosphere. Placed on the shoreline of the picturesque Tutukaka Harbour, the restaurant is a unique Fale style building with ample dining seating and a spacious bar. Established in 1992 by Pete and Tina Vink, Schnappa Rock is now one of the icons of the community, a place where locals mix and mingle with international tourists and the Kiwi holiday makers, who flock to the area to experience the world renowned Poor Knights diving waters, and classic New Zealand beaches. Schnappa Rock is the perfect venue for the post-dive-trip drinks and dining evening, a quiet drink, romantic meal, family celebration or the company function. Come and join hosts Nick and Esther, a welcoming staff and head chef Kurt Morgan, for an experience you will not forget. A trip to the winterless north is not complete without the Schnappa Rock experience.

For the palate cleanser at our Duke collaboration dinner, Uma made a hangi pineapple sorbet.

Not only was it a cool, fun dish, it showcased the flavours of hangi in a completely different way than we’d seen before.

Such a cool dish and we were stoked to see it done here in Northland.

Then it’s back to Schnappa Rock, where Dean will turn produce straight from Nadia’s garden into a seasonal 5 course lunch, with Nadia’s produce taking centre stage.

Our McLeod’s porter-braised beef cheek has become one of our signature dishes and a great representation of Northland.

Beef from Omak Meats McLeod's Brewery Pioneer Porter, kawakawa from behind the restaurant and produce from our own garden.

Dean Thompson first did this dish for a Beef + Lamb New Zealand collaboration dinner at The Fat Duck Te Anau in Te Anau last year to showcase Northland produce. Since it was so well received he came back and put it on the Schnappa Rock menu and it’s been a favourite ever since.

Spring is here, the days are getting longer and summer in Tutukaka doesn’t feel too far away.

Such a great night and a cool opportunity for Tutukaka to get a taste of The Duke. We especially loved Uma's incorporation of the flavours and techniques of hangi throughout his dishes.

Thanks again to Umayanga Sooriyabandara for making the trip to Tutukaka.

Terra and Schnappa Rock are teaming up for a one-night collaboration dinner at Schnappa Rock on Tuesday 15th September.

Marcus Berndt will join Dean Thompson in the Schnappa Rock kitchen, bringing the two restaurants together for a six-course tasting menu.

Terra is a Cuisine-hatted restaurant in Paihia with a strong focus on modern dining and showcasing the produce of the Far North.
Both Terra and Schnappa Rock are proud advocates for Northland and share a love for showcasing the great produce, food, and people we have up here.
