A 100 metre walk will get you down to our own secluded beach, where you can go swimming or snorkling, find beautiful shells and stones, and occasionally spot seals. There are also nice beach walks you

can do in either direction depending on the tides. Shambhala is set within artistic surroundings. Beautiful mosaic artwork, paintings and sculptures nourish your soul along with the natural beauty of the place. We do NOT offer a TV or wireless internet. There are internet cafes in Takaka, the main town in Golden Bay. Relax on the beach, have an evening glass of wine while enjoying the magnicient panaromic sea views. Venture out at night to the "Mussel Inn" for a meal or for one of its music nights.

General information

Shambhala is in a central location to explore both sides of the bay, from The Abel Tasman to Farewell Spit. Rental vehicle is available from Shambhala. The guest house is open from October to May. In winter Shambhala offers different kind of retreats. Workshop organizers and group leaders, please contact us to check the availability and make a booking for your retreats during winter months. Accommodation Shambhala has a variety of accommodation available. The main house has two shared rooms (4 beds each) and a double, all with shared facilities. Another building up on the hill has four doubles/twins, with a separate kitchen. All rooms come with made-up beds (no bunks), and stunning views over the bay! The main house has a comfortable lounge area with a fireplace and an interesting collection of English, Japanese and German language books. There is also a selection of board games, as well as a guitar and a piano for music lovers. On the verandah you can relax on a couch while admiring the panoramic ocean views. The spacious gardens are lovely to wander around, and the gazebo is a perfect spot for a BBQ-night under the stars. Environmental-friendly technology Main garden with sea view, Shambhala promotes an environmental-friendly life-style by using alternative technology. We use solar power as a source of energy, and there is a rainwater collection system for our water supply. To heat the water we use a wet back (fire-heated), gas and solar energy. There are also very efficient clivis multrum composting toilets and recycling for glass, metals and plastic. Food scraps are used for composting.
