Glory Patisseries, where the aroma of freshly baked pastries hits you the moment you walk in. They are known for their flaky, buttery pastries, which come in a variety of unique and classic flavours. It’s the kind of place that feels like a warm hug with amazing coffee and sweet treats that look too pretty to eat (but trust us, you’ll eat them anyway) 🥐☕

Then there’s Kawana Coffee House, tucked in the heart of Takapuna. Not only are they family-friendly, but they also have amazing toasted pastries and smooth single-origin brews that always feel homey and crafted with care. Kawana is where comfort and community blend perfectly. ☕

From Shanghai to Milan — a journey of craft, connection, and courage ☕✨

Two weeks ago, David stood in Milan for the 25th Anniversary of the World Barista Championship, surrounded by some of the most passionate people in coffee. He felt both humbled and inspired.

This year, David had the honour of not only judging but also assisting the Joint Operations Leads — Roukiat, Kimberly, and Miguel — to ensure the smooth running and fairness of the judging process.

Each morning began with espresso and milk calibration, followed by stage and logistics support, and David fit in a few judging shifts in between. Additionally, he coached Pan Enqi (潘恩祺) from China for his WBC debut. Their journey included dedication, late-night calls, countless rehearsals, and a lot of heart, beginning from their first meeting when they didn't share a single word in English to standing together in Milan.

Working alongside Liangfan (梁凡老師), Sinny Xiao Su (小蘇), and Liang Yin (梁引老師), they cupped coffees, refined flavour profiles, and rebuilt routines from the ground up. Enqi finished 21st in the world — an incredible result in one of the toughest WBC fields ever. But beyond the score, it’s about the growth, courage, and friendships that have developed.

A huge thank you to the WCC and SCA family for making this amazing journey possible for so many baristas around the world. Thank you to the judges, representatives, sponsors, and volunteers for their passion and commitment. Congratulations to Jack Simpson, the 2025 World Barista Champion! 🏆☕️

☕ Meet Neil — the guy who’s everywhere at Society Coffee.
If something’s roasting, brewing, packing, delivering, fixing, or tasting… chances are, Neil’s involved.

Over the last two years, Neil’s has quietly evolved from “helping out in the roastery” to becoming one of the key players in the operation. He’s gained the trust and responsibility to coordinate production schedules, support new accounts, and help uphold the standards Society Coffee Roasters is known for. The job demands precision, reliability, and a sense of humour — all of which Neil brings in generous doses.

By title, he’s our Coffee Roastery & Wholesale Support.
But in reality, he’s the bridge between our roastery and the cafes serving Society Coffees across Aotearoa.

🎯Additionally, Neil’s been stepping into the world of coffee judging, joining David Huang on trips around New Zealand and overseas. He’s learning the art (and patience) of sensory evaluation — tasting, scoring, and discussing the world’s best coffees with people who take espresso very, very seriously.

We are feeling grateful to have Neil in our team, because at Society Coffee, we believe in kaizen — everyday improvement — and Neil’s journey is living proof of that.

Happy Monday! This weekend is all about Fluff, with Fluff Friday and Fluff Monday! Instead of the usual Cafe range Seasonal Blend, Team Fluff has chosen from our Exotic range: Colombia Luis Anibal Calderon with the Honey Caturron process. This coffee offers flavors of poached grapefruit, honeycomb, and cocoa nibs. Delicious!

And, of course, decaf is always available for those who prefer less caffeine. And they have got our newest Decaf: Mexico El Tucan Organic! Let us know if you can taste any difference from the old one. 🤭

David just got back from the Singapore Coffee Championship! Has anyone been to Singapore and tried their coffee? If not, this is your chance! This Saturday, David will be sharing the spoils of the championship alongside some coffee he enjoyed from a local roastery.😆✨

It has been nearly a year since my international judging journey began, and it all started here in Singapore. This time, however, I return not as a trainee, but as a green representative with a trainee of my own.

The Singapore Coffee Championship never lacks excitement, and this year was no exception. Together with the trainee rep, Edward , and our dedicated WCC rep team Sunny and Susie we navigated the challenges and successfully concluded three intense days of competition.

A heartfelt thank you to Zann for the invitation and for bringing me back to Singapore. Your exceptional hospitality and attention to our every need greatly enhanced the championship experience.

Our motto stands true: alone, one is weak; together, we are strong.

Kudos to the head judge team, Edward and Coco , for their stern leadership throughout the Singapore Latte Art Championship. Congrat to the Latte Art final panel for the awesome job, ._.ijie

Congratulations to Tan Jia Min from The Populus for winning the Singapore Latte Art Championship with outstanding skill and creativity. Applause to Wong Ruoqi (Chris) from Santino for triumphing in the Singapore Barista Championship after last year’s close finish, and to Elysia Tan for her third victory in the Singapore National Brewers Cup.

A special shout-out to WeiJie ._.ijie for the unforgettable tour and delicious meal at Maxwell Hawker Stall, and to Kimberly for introducing me to my first-ever crab feast.

I cherish every moment with you all and eagerly await my return to the vibrant, bustling streets of Singapore!
