The Flyer Cafe & Bar Kingston

Cook / Chef
35 hours full time during peak season (Oct - May)
Start Date: Immediate Start.
We are looking for an experienced chef / cook in our semi-rural small-town kitchen. You need to be comfortable working with a small friendly team, staying organised, and switching between two very different days: busy, fast-paced Friday–Sunday day shifts, and quieter Monday and Tuesday evenings.
The roster::
• Friday, Saturday and Sunday — day shifts (busy).
• Monday and Tuesday — evening shifts (quieter).
What you’ll do:
• Prepare, cook and plate food to a consistent standard.
• Run the kitchen during your shifts and keep service moving.
• Help manage kitchen and floor staff so the team works well together.
• Manage all hygiene, food safety and compliance day to day.
• Work with patrons and staff in a friendly, professional way.
• Work alongside Duty Managers, reporting to the General Manager.
Who we’re looking for:
• A cook or chef who is good with people — guests, locals and the team.
• Happy working in a compact kitchen with a small team, not a large commercial setup.
• Experienced in food health, safety and compliance, or willing to learn and follow the systems we put in place.
• Able to manage kitchen and floor staff, hygiene and compliance.
• Calm on a packed weekend and equally happy on a quiet evening.
• Reliable, tidy and proud of the food that leaves the pass.
This is a rural lakeside role attached to a well-known heritage brand. If you like cooking good honest food, looking after people, and being part of a small team in a semi rural setting, we’d like to hear from you. *No sponsorship available, must have working visa*.

Casual Barista / Front of House
15 hours | Casual - Peak Tourist Season
Start Date: Immediately until May 2026
We’re looking for a trained, experienced barista to join Kingston the Flyer Café & Bar.
This is a casual role of around 15 hours a week over the busy summer period, the usual work days are Saturday and Sunday during the day, and ideally Friday during the day as well. Those shifts can be busy and fast-paced, especially when locals, visitors, cyclists and train-day crowds are in.
What you’ll do:
• Make great coffee to a consistent standard, even when service is flying.
• Perform front-of-house duties: greeting guests, taking orders, serving food and drinks, clearing tables and keeping the café tidy.
• Help on the floor when it’s quiet — everyone pitches in.
• Work as part of a small, friendly team and give patrons a warm Kingston welcome.
Who we’re looking for:
• Trained and experienced on coffee — this is not a learn-on-the-job barista role.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced café environment.
• Happy doing general FOH work as well as coffee.
• Willing to help on the floor during quieter periods.
• Reliable, friendly and good with both guests and staff.
• Available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday day shifts in summer.
If you love making coffee, enjoy people, and like the idea of working in a small-town café attached to a well-known heritage brand, we’d like to hear from you. *No sponsorship available, must have working visa*.
