An historic hotel with modern amenities, The Pier Hotel was first built in circa 1885. This cozy seaside hotel still retains the appearance, charm and atmosphere of yesteryear - but houses all the mod cons of today! A thorough refurbishment complements the old with the new.

The site is superb and undoubtedly the best outlook in Kaikoura, with panoramic vistas of the Kaikoura Ranges and sweeping views of Ingals’ Bay from the bar, balcony and restaurant .

Today marks one year since we reopened after our renovations – and what a year it’s been!

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us – from locals who pop in regularly, to visitors from all over the world who make the Pier Hotel part of their journey. Your support, stories, and smiles have made this year unforgettable.

We loved having our local Fire Brigade in for dinner this week! They do an amazing job in a community and we are pleased to have raised over $200 for them with our ‘Dine For A Difference’!
