This Wednesday – Sentimental Value (Affeksjonsverdi)

Grand Prix winner at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, this acclaimed Norwegian drama reunites Renate Reinsve with The Worst Person in the World director Joachim Trier.

Reinsve plays Nora, a successful Oslo stage actress whose life is unsettled when her estranged father — a once-celebrated filmmaker played by Stellan Skarsgård — returns with plans for a comeback film and asks her to star in it. When Nora refuses, the role instead goes to an American movie star (Elle Fanning), who soon realises she has stepped into a story deeply entwined with the Borg family’s unresolved past.

As Nora and her sister Agnes begin to confront long-buried memories, old wounds surface and the possibility of reconciliation slowly emerges. Thoughtful, moving and beautifully performed, Sentimental Value explores family, memory, and the complicated power of art.
