Saturday morning well spent at Wainoni Park helping out with the May bird monitoring 🐦🍃

Was so cool seeing the wide range of local birdlife! From pukekos to tiny little silvereyes, there were heaps for us to see and hear!

Plus I think these guys are now bird ID experts 😌

We have TWO awesome events happening this Saturday for Youth! Celebrate Youth Week by coming along to one!
Come along, learn something new, and explore our local reserves with Taylor from GCT Eco Youth.
🐦 SATURDAY 23 MAY - Bird Count at William Gamble Reserve
🕤 11am – 12pm
Join Taylor as she heads into William Gamble Reserve for some hands‑on biodiversity monitoring!
Learn how to identify birds by sight and sound, then record your findings as part of our May Bird Counts.

Youth Week Celebration: A huge Shout Out to Our Awesome Young Eco Champions!
It's Youth Week & we're celebrating the incredible young people who help keep Greenhithe thriving!
From hauling rubbish at coastal clean ups, to lending a hand with our Friends groups, to monitoring our bird populations and checking traplines... our youth volunteers show up with energy, curiosity, and heart. 💚🌊🐦
Your mahi makes a real difference for our reserves, our wildlife, and our community.

🦉🌿 Ever noticed how many bird sounds are actually in Greenhithe?

This May, you can be part of our Bird Monitoring sessions!! A twice a year project where we track what bird species are living in our local area 👀

We’ll be using the Merlin Bird ID app to help pick up bird calls and spotting what we can find, so no experience? No problem!

Sessions (11am-12pm):
📍 Saturday 9th - Outlook Reserve
📍 Saturday 23rd - William Gamble
📍Saturday 30th - Wainoni Park

Spots are limited to 5 youth per session, so get in quick!

🌿📸🦋 The perrrrfect activity for this ANZAC weekend 🌏💚

Join in on the City Nature Challenge, to help get Auckland it's number one spot! It’s honestly one of the easiest ways to get involved. Just download the iNaturalist app, head out to a reserve (or even your backyard), and start snapping anything living you find - plants, fungi, birds, bugs… whatever you spot 🌱🍄🐦🪲

No need to be an expert! Just explore, take pics, and you’re contributing real data. Every observation helps boost the Auckland total and supports our Greenhithe Community Trust Ecology Project at the same time. Big impact for just being curious 🙌

We’re currently sitting at 2,798 observations & 1,068 species… so the real question is how much can we level that up by the end of the weekend? 👀

Grab some friends, go for a wander, and see what you can find 🔍💥

🌿We’ve had a brilliant couple of weeks across our Greenhithe reserves. The Friends of Outlook Reserve, Friends of Orātau Reserve, and Friends of Wainoni Park teams have all been out making steady, visible progress - clearing weeds, opening up space for natives, and keeping our tracks looking great.
These photos show just a snapshot of the mahi. It’s amazing what consistent community care can achieve. Thanks to everyone who’s been turning up and getting stuck in 💚🌱
