If you’ve followed along with our Train Series, you’ll know by now that Emerson’s has a bit of a thing for trains. But this story isn’t just about trains, it’s about the people behind the taproom and brewery.

Before Emerson’s became a brewery, Richard Emerson was a trainspotter. That lifelong fascination found its way into the beers we brew, and of course, the details woven throughout the taproom.

They’re reminders that Emerson’s has always been built on personality and unique character that has shaped what we are today.

Greg and Richard attended the Outstanding Food Producer Awards Champions Dinner on Tuesday night, celebrating excellence in New Zealand's food and drink. Emerson’s Brewery has proudly sponsored the Outstanding Food Producer Awards Paddock category for many years, supporting the people and producers shaping the future of the industry.

Congratulations to this year’s Paddock Champion, Conscious Valley. Run by Hamish and Caroline Best, the 420-hectare Ōhāriu Valley farm has been in Hamish’s family for six generations. Conscious Valley is no stranger to the Outstanding Food Producer Awards, having previously taken out the inaugural Dish Hero Ingredient Champion and Emerging Business Champion awards in 2025. 🏆
