The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has released today the Māori in Business report.

The report provides an analysis of Māori who run their own business. This is based on Māori who are self-employed, either working alone or employing others. The report uses data from the 2013 and 2006 Censuses of Population and Dwellings.

Key findings show:

- Over 21,000 Māori run their own business.
- Māori are half as likely to be self-employed as the total population.
- Māori women are less likely to be self-employed than Māori men.
