The Papanui RSA is a branch of The Royal New Zealand Returned and Services’ Association. The NZRSA is one of the largest voluntary welfare organisations in New Zealand and one of the longest established ex-service organisations in the world. Today over 120,000 members throughout New Zealand share a common commitment to the Crown, the Nation and the Community; dedicated to the RSA motto – ‘People Helping People’. RSA commitment to welfare is embodied in Poppy Day when red poppies are exchanged for donations to hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders to raise funds for veterans’ welfare and to honour the memory of those who have given their lives in times of war. Poppy Day is usually observed on the Friday before Anzac Day. Anzac Day is observed each year on the 25th April. RSAs throughout New Zealand take part in wreath-laying ceremonies of remembrance for fallen comrades. How We Help:

RSA people rally to help fellow New Zealanders in need and war veterans in particular. RSA help is available at local and national level to eligible war veterans and their families, RSA Members and non-members and to the wider New Zealand community. Members of the Papanui RSA belong to a nationwide voluntary welfare organisation committed to the rich tradition of comradeship and community service that characterises the NZRSA. Over 120,000 Returned, Service and Associate members today support a network of 170 local RSAs throughout New Zealand. All members are welcome to visit and enjoy the recreational facilities of RSAs throughout the country, take part in social and sporting events, or simply relax in congenial surroundings close to home. Membership applications are invited from adults of all ages, who are either citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand or any other Commonwealth country. Membership is divided into three categories – Returned, Service and Associate. New members are always welcome! Benefits

Membership of the RSA brings a range of benefits: easy access to welfare and pensions advice; social and sporting opportunities; member only promotions from financial institutions and other companies; and entitlement to receive RSA Review.

The team who will represent New Zealand at the 2027 Invictus Games has been named!

Our 19 competing members and two non-travelling reserves were selected following a comprehensive process, including selection camp at RNZAF Base Auckland where hopefuls got to try most of the sports on offer and meet with coaches, management and medical staff.

The number of competitor places allocated to each nation is determined by the Invictus Games governing body.

Over the coming months, the team will train, try new sports, set individual and team goals and work alongside coaches and support staff as they prepare to represent New Zealand and the NZ Defence Force on the international Invictus stage.

Invictus is about much more than medals. It uses the power of sport to support recovery and rehabilitation, build confidence, create new goals and reconnect people with the sense of purpose and teamwork at the heart of the Invictus journey.

There’s plenty of hard work ahead – but also plenty to celebrate along the way, with whānau, friends and the wider Invictus community behind them.

Congratulations to our 2027 team, the journey to the Invictus Games starts now.

Yay it’s that time of the week again. I hope the weather stays nice for our Thursday gathering at The Papanui Club from 4pm. The Ode will be immediately after the club’s lucky number draws. It really impressed me how responsive the club has been to standing and observing respectfully a moment of remembrance. Personally I love that we are reaching more people on a regular basis reminding people of all ages that remembrance is not just for ANZAC Day. Well done Team!!

Don’t forget nominations and bios are due in before 30 September. I will have nomination forms printed out on Thursday or am happy to email one if needed. We are expecting a good retention but new blood is always welcome. Remember it’s our club, our voice.

Join us at the Papanui Club this ANZAC Day
Saturday 25th April as we come together to remember and honour.
In collaboration with the Papanui RSA, attendees are advised to gather at the rear of the Papanui Club near the Bowling Club from around 9:30am, with the march stepping off at approximately 9:45am, proceeding to the front grassed area where the service will be held.
A buffet breakfast will also be available for $20 per person. 7.30-9am.
We do recommend booking for the buffet breakfast to avoid disappointment. Call The Papanui Club on 03 359 9586
We invite the community to come together, pay their respects, and remember those who served.
