Christmas came early to Ikana and the Glass family with a visit to Christchurch by our Guangzhou Ikana Distributers, Sabine and William and Rachael of Zhi Wing. Also Reggie Li called by from Beijing - that man Reggie is the Mussel Messiah! Stunning tenderness and flavor. Also Akaroa Salmon, Whitebait fritters and Paua patties....and that was just the Entree! Julie whipped up a classic Turkey and Pork Xmas dinner to finish us all off. Great fun!

Mr Grant Fuller Joins Ikana NZ as Director International Marketing
We are excited to share that Mr Grant Fuller has taken a new position with Ikana as our Director of International Marketing. As the title suggests Grant will be focusing on the opening of new countries and markets for our live shellfish products, particularly Greenshell Mussel and Blackfoot Paua, and particularly in South East Asia and North Asia. He will also play a key role in the further development of our China market, both existing cities as well as fledgling and new provinces.

Grant is a Kiwi lad from finest Canterbury stock out of Christchurch. He has represented Canterbury at senior level in hockey and at senior club level in cricket. He now resides in Wellington with wife Rebecca and their two lads Luke & Daniel, but he importantly remains a resolute one-eyed supporter of the Canterbury Crusaders. Grant has enjoyed an extensive career with NZTE that has included Trade Commissioner roles in Shanghai, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur (where Grant also had responsibility for Indonesia and Brunei). Grant also worked in Beijing in a business development role for 3 years, and recently lived and worked in Guangzhou for three years as well. We have had the pleasure of getting to know Grant over the last 18 months as he has helped to orientate and introduce us to China contacts as well as begin to improve our understanding of the many markets and channels within this vast country, as well as the pace of change that occurs there.

We are already greatly enjoying working with Grant and are appreciating his passion and belief in our product as well as his professionalism and humour. We look forward to introducing him to our customers over the coming weeks.

Ahiahi Brand Distributer for Southern China, Pinhui’s Scott Su and Wayne Di visit us in Christchurch, New Zealand - May 2017. A wonderful day was had when Steve and Tony hosted Scott and Wayne through our Christchurch process/pack facility and a visit out on the water to view one of the mussel farms at Port Levy in the Banks Peninsula, owned by our supply partner Simon Acton-Adams and local farmers Phillip Help and Edward Aitken. Phillip and Edward kindly delivered us out on the water to the barge during mussel harvest where we introduced Scott and Wayne to Sam Helps the skipper of the St George, and his crew. Simon, Phillip and Sam are always so helpful with these visits from our special market distribution partners and the ability to get onto a barge and view the harvest process up-front and personal is so very educational and invaluable for strengthening our relationships from farm to market. Some tasting of the live raw mussels straight from the sea was a new experience, thankfully supplemented with a super lunch on dry land later at the Sa Ra Japanese restaurant where we caught up with our Ahiahi Exporter Mike Chin and his Ops Mgr Jeremy Greenwood. A jolly fine day…thank you Scott and Wayne!
