Hey loves,

Well, this is it. The last one on Meta.

We bloody love ya. And, we are still right where we've always been, poorly signed, elusively front-doored and always, always striving to show big big aroha for those who enter into this, their club house.

You'll find us doing just the same in the whare. Making cool s**t happen, serving up kai that's reka/yum & striving to be a safer space for consistent kind times.

Look, you're maybe bored of this but hey, let's run the checklist one last time:

🫶 come see us IRL 🤗 (in real life)
🍕 Sign up for the weekly newsletter (via website)
🎟️ Follow us on Bluesky (you know you want to)
🫂 Tell your old math teacher about us
🍉 Be a good sort 🇵🇸
📸 Follow us on Pixelfed

🌝 Give us a choice review somewhere
🎤 Make your band a profile on Bluesky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🪴 Remember to nose breathe

Alright, here's to seeing you in person 👯🛸🎇🎉

Today is our final day on Meta,

We don't believe we've been able to reach you consistently on here. Algorithms stand between us. Without boosting (paid) content you've been missing a lot of us.

Meta benefits in many ways from our active account here. We are taking our energy away now.

It's a full rebuild on BlueSky. We're up for it.

Our comms are finding a way to arrange themselves on there and the fresh start is proving to be fun.

Know that you matter e te whānau.
Your choices matter and so do you.

Last year we were invited to (hang in there) the 'National Summit on the Economic & Wellbeing Value of Live Performance in Aotearoa'. Phew 😅.

A whole lot of academic research had been done around how good live performance may be for wellbeing & the economy (spoiler alert, the arts are ridiculously good for the economy).

Data was gathered in-person (surveying at live performances - including heaps at Space Academy gigs!!) & online with peeps who did and did not attend live performances over a 12 month period.

What the data showed is that attending live performances provides an immediate well-being boost (to life satisfaction)!! Whoop whoop. Better yet, a single live performance was found to contribute to a LASTING improvement in overall wellbeing across the year. Live performance attendees report their wellbeing to be 7.6% higher than those who hadn’t gone to something in the last twelve months.

It's a cool study and we've made a real mess trying to explain it here.

Look, it's real easy to slip out of the live event habit or... to never fall into it.
But we hope you'll keep coming out to gigs, not just at Spacies but all over the motu, even if you lose touch with us here.

It's bloody good for ya (of course we all knew that already but now we have this fancy study too).

Huge mihi to Massey, UC & the Ministry of Culture & Heritage for funding it.

Full study can be found on the Massey website.

Kia ora e te whānau, our family.

The community growing & interacting here is a healthy one, a meaningful one.
We deeply appreciate the time we have spent here with you.

It is for far too many reasons that we will no longer be active on Meta platforms.

Ultimately it is the loss of (& to) children around the world & the multiple roles Meta has played in these harms, that's shattered our rationale to remain here. And so, we're done.

Our accounts will not disappear immediately but our content creation: our posts and our stories, our likes, comments and shares on Facebook and Instagram will stop, at the end of this weekend.

🫀If you value what we do & the values we uphold, if you love the way you feel when you are in our/tō tātou space, then you'll find us, we aren't going anywhere!

If you want to mahitahi/work together in this significant transition here's how you can give us a hand:

🫶 Share this post widely, online & kānohi ki te kānohi/face to face (Meta understandably won't be motivated to share what we are posting, but you might)

🫶 Sign up for our weekly email Newsletter! (sign up on our website)

Content: What's on this week, what's coming up + special content

🫶 Join us on Bluesky (we are so excited to see you there) - .bsky.social

We have created a Bluesky Starter Pack called "Aotearoa New Zealand Music Scene". You'll find a bunch of folk from this community already there.

🫶 Follow us from anywhere in the Fediverse.
We are on Pixelfed:

(It's a growing family photo album & we'll be bringing across lots of content).

🫶 Search for us on Under The Radar. See what's coming up at SA.

🫶 Book a table, introduce your neighbour to Pizza Trap & Space Academy. Word of mouth is simply the best (better than all the rest).

🫶 If you like what we do, find ways to give us loving reviews

🫶 Send an email to [email protected] with your thoughts and ideas about this transition. We value & always consider your perspective.

Thanks for your time loves,
We envision a kinder society.

See you there.

We recently posted about moving Space Academy support from Spotify to Tidal (in our sharing new tracks & albums online and playing tunes ourselves).

Some of Spotify's practises seemed misaligned with values we endeavour to uphold. They also pay artists what we understand to be around 0.004c per stream (streaming services don't typically disclose their rates).
Tidal's approx 0.012c per stream, seemed a meaningful way to tautoko (acknowledge) the musical members of our SA whānau (& other musicians we value).

It was kōrero (comments) on that Tidal post which introduced us to (👂co - buzz).

Qobuz (first in the streaming industry to officially disclose its rates) weighs in at around 0.018c per stream.
So, we moved to higher ground.

Big love to the fam, who hold heaps of knowledge & bring beaut ideas. Team effort 💪

Love yous

Nb. We don't have any kind of arrangement with Qobuz, beyond feeling stoked by their ethos.

We've been scratching our heads, opening our minds to how we can be more diverse in our online activities. Turns out there's a movement towards decentralisation on the internets, as well as creating spaces aligned with tikanga (how things are done) that we feel resonance with (like being kinder to our brains 🧠).

So we're stoked to let you know, that last night, we joined some of our pals over on Bluesky (including ).

This post will be given pretty low reach (understandably) so if you're down for this option, maybe tell some buddies who are looking to diversify too.

OK. Go gentle.

Tonight we wonder if we all died and were reborn a bit better. It was an evening thick with magic (and harmonies) with Brooke of and surprise guest . All topics were covered and all hearts (we assume) were packed to the brim.

Huge mihi to these special souls for all of their musical generosity and to the stunning crowd this evening.
