Some dishes we’ve put up this week of whipped groper roe and late winter crudites, a perfect time when the vegetables are crossing over but the roe on the fish are still fat from winter so a wonderful combination of the cross over in seasons.
Some smoked kahawai with beetroot remolade and Guinness bread and lastly our Poaka Coppa with polenta, lardons, crispy sage and pan sauce from the pork bones.
A strong start to the week we kept our hat (8/10 years in a row might I add) then the induction stovetop broke and everything including the pan sauce is being cooked over charcoal until it’s fixed.✨✨

A massive thank you to Cuisine Magazine for the hat we received last night.

We hosted a small gathering of drinks and snacks with friends who own restaurants too and we’re stoked to have achieved hat status once more. We’ll continue to uphold the creativity and joy that Gatherings restaurant has bought to the city and to you our guests for nearly 10 years now.

Thank you to cuisine for making nights like this such an exciting part of the national restaurant scene.

An enormous week 💥💥

This Friday the 7th of August, we’re handing our wine list over to The Wrekin Vineyard - Southern Valleys for the night. If you’re into wine, you’ve probably heard the name, they’re one of the most talked about biodynamic producers and one of the most famous vineyards in Marlborough, tucked away in the Southern Valleys. A far cry from the mass-produced sauvignon blanc Marlborough is known for, for better or worse!

They do it properly and farm biodynamically. Some of the biggest names in wine buy grapes from them to make their own wine from this special site, so if you enjoy wine, there’s a good chance you’ve already tasted this very special, very unique vineyard.

Come taste it and meet the people behind it at both Gatherings and Kisi bar . We are so excited!!

Most of you probably don’t know this, but Gatherings has been owned by just one couple for almost 10 years. Alex and Bryony, dreamed this whole thing up and opened it in early 2017. We’ve always been completely independent, opening on a shoestring, working hard to treat people fairly, and doing our best to represent the region.

Three years ago, Bryony nearly died. She hit her head in an accident, suffered a brain bleed, and spent weeks in hospital before being allowed home where she then spent months unable to do much independently. Gatherings kept going through all of it, thanks to the team and our sheer determination. Recovery has been slow, and some effects are still with her three years on.

Bryony is a musician, and through the darkness and uncertainty of that time, she started writing about her experience. Those stories of a quiet, unseen recovery that thousands of people live through every day have become a stage show. She’s touring it across Aotearoa starting next month.

If she’s coming to your area, go show support. It’s been a hard road, and her ability to turn it into something honest and beautiful something that might help others going through the same thing is admirable. Poster with all the dates is above.

And a reminder: restaurants are run by real people with real lives, who love what they do. Through thick and thin, we show up to give you a good time that’s part of our job.
