Ki te māra ngā manu o Rehua 🌿🐦

Come explore the Swanns Road Wildlife Garden with Christchurch City Council! Join the rangers and rangatahi as we get to know the insects and plants that call this space home and the special relationships between them.

This little patch of the red zone is being grown into a wildlife garden, showing what we can all do in our own backyards to bring more biodiversity into the city. The native plants here have long-standing relationships with our manu and pepeke — offering kai, marumaru (shelter), and safe places to nest.

Nau mai kararehe mā ki tō koutou māra — welcome wildlife to your garden!

They'll be hunting for bugs, learning the names of the rākau, manu, and pepeke, and singing with the birds along the way.

Wear sturdy hū (footwear) and bring a takawai (water bottle).

Kia ora koutou! 🧦🪡

Got holes in your socks, jerseys, or favourite woollens? Come along to Repair Revolution: Hand Darning and give them a new lease of life.

📅 Tuesday 15th September
🕠 5:30pm–7:00pm
📍 Riverlution Eco Hub

What to bring:

Your items needing darning — socks, holey jersey sleeves, you name it
Some similar-coloured yarn or wool to match your mend (op shops are a great spot to find odd balls if you don't have any at home) — or go bold and darn in a contrast colour
If the hole's on the larger side, bring another similar wool item you don't mind sacrificing — it can be cut up to reinforce the patch (an old sock you're not using is perfect)
An orange! It works a treat as a darning mushroom to hold the fabric in shape while you stitch

Needles will be provided, and our usual repairers will be there too, alongside friendly volunteers on hand to help you learn the craft.

This kaupapa is part of Repair Cafe Aotearoa's Repair Festival, running right across the motu from 5–27 September. Communities of repair already exist all over Aotearoa — passionate people, a bit of patience, and a shared drive to keep things in use for longer. Come curious, leave inspired.

🌞🌱 What a fabulous day at the garden last Wednesday!

We celebrated our wonderful garden coordinator, Rachel, along with our yearly Silly Hat Day, and we were blessed with some truly extraordinary weather to go with it. Even our Café team got in on the silly hat action! 😄

A huge congratulations to Dave, our chief mower, who took out Best Silly Hat and went home with a bottle of our delightful olive oil as his prize. 🏆🫒

Over in the garden, this week's session was all about tidying up the raspberry bed, ready for the season ahead.

So lovely to have the sunshine out and so many smiles around the site today. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a great one.

Looking for a good reason to get out of the house this Saturday? Riverlution Farmers Market in Richmond has become one of our regular stops, and it’s easy to see why.

There’s organic veg, fresh bread, good coffee and kai to pick up for the week. For $1 the kids can feed the chickens, and there’s a mud kitchen, tunnel and sand play to keep them busy while you shop. Toys and books too if you want to slow down and stay a while.

It’s right next to Avebury Playground, so if the kids need to run off more energy afterwards, that’s sorted too.

Our new digital menu is here! ☕️🌿

You can now check out everything we’ve got on offer at Riverlution Café - coffee, toasties, Bellbird pastries, ice cream, sweet treats, teas and cold drinks.

We’ve also got plenty of vegan-friendly options, alternative milks at no extra cost, and goodies from our garden.

Pop down to see artist Lee Collin's new exhibition at the yellow Shed Gallery at the Richmond Community Garden 9am-1pm until 9 August. Perfect thing to do on a sunny day, prints and artwork available for sale, and grab a coffee next door at Cafe, take the kids around the gardens. Underneath the Arches.

*To give all our vendors, staff, and local families the space to attend services and spend time reflecting with loved ones, the market will be closed on Saturday 15th April. We'll be back open next weekend - Saturday 2nd May!

For those of you looking for a way to commemorate the day locally, you might be interested in joining the Anzac Remembrance Walk hosted by Avebury House at 10am. It’s a beautiful way to connect with the Richmond community.
