It's with heavy heart that this announcement is made. John & May's has closed. We wanted to do so much more with this gem, but after losing the core team and with the hit to downtown Auckland from COVID-19, it just tipped the balance too far to be able to keep going.

We can't thank you all who managed to come through enough for all your kind words over the last years back to the Gin Room days.

Special thanks to Creigh Bartel, Joe Busch and Addison Roberson for the amazing cocktails you meticulously worked out and created. What an absolute achievement and all the best in your future endeavors.

With lots of love and all our best wishes!
Goodbye from the John & May's Team ❤️

I'm sure the news has hit us all hard about going back to level 3. At this stage we are closed until Saturday. There is likely to be more news in the upcoming days and if the circumstances change we will update as soon as we know.

We will most likely have to go back to contact tracing, hand sanitizing and social distancing once we reopen as it will be level 2.

Look after one another and let's hope we can all be back to normal very soon.

Hi Everyone,

We are looking for a cocktail bartender to join our team at John & Mays. We have been working very hard at opening this space and have a menu that contains 28 unique cocktails with all ingredients (apart from the alcohol) made in house. High end garnish game to go with it so its a very creative space to get amongst. You will of course be involved at the forefront in any changes to the menu going forward.

Send your CV's to [email protected] - looking forward to hearing from you!

Friends,

We’re still open, but we’re making changes.

We’ve reviewed our health and hygiene procedures, and will be taking extra care to ensure your experience at John & May’s is a happy, positive, safe one. Staff will be encouraged to stay home if they feel unwell, and will be supported throughout the process.

We’re asking you to keep to polite waves as you greet friends and regulars, to wash your hands assiduously, and to respect other customers’ personal space. Did we mention hand-washing? Wash. Your. Hands.

If you’re feeling unwell, please stay home. We’ll be right there when the world is back on its feet, and boy, will we celebrate!

It’s a scary time for all of us – and times are especially uncertain for those of us who make a living out of hosting, mixing and serving. If you are healthy and have the means, please keep supporting local businesses such as ours. Auckland’s hospitality scene is vibrant and exciting, and that’s thanks to our community. Now more than ever, we need to be looking after one another.

Kia ora, stay safe.

An Ode

There are many trail blazers to thank for a building still standing tall in the Old Town of Auckland, but it seems only fitting to dedicate our drinkery to two very important humans. Together they built and established a true institution, serving publicans until their last breath and no doubt absorbing many myths of old. Today we can only scratch the surface of these folk tales by searching deep into history books to keep them alive. In their honour, let us take you to a time when ‘The Cocktail’ was popping, from the Art Deco Speakeasy’s of the 20’s to mid-century Modern Chic and back. Step up and into a nightery full of fervour for hand crafted and innovative drink design, where mouth amusers await at the hands of a carefully curated liquor cabinet, while the narrative of old and contemporary cocktails is rewritten, in a new story for the ages. With much love and respect to John & May Robertson, here’s tae you.
