This July, SO/ Auckland welcomes an evening unlike anything we’ve done before. Chef Rex Morgan and Chef Rewi Spraggon bring together two culinary worlds — ancient tradition and modern craft — for three nights of extraordinary dining.

One of three in the world, and only one in New Zealand.
Created by renowned Dutch designer Marcel Wanders exclusively for SO/ Auckland, this installation combines 67 individual pendant chandeliers and 1,248 lamps into a single sculptural centrepiece.

Look closely and you'll notice that no two elements are quite the same. Traditional chandeliers, contemporary pendants, and unexpected forms are layered together in a deliberate collision of styles, a design philosophy that runs throughout the hotel itself.

Part lighting installation. Part artwork. Entirely SO/.

Most visitors to Auckland know the skyline. Fewer know the view tells the story of a volcanic city.

From HI-SO Rooftop Bar, look east and you'll spot Rangitoto rising from the harbour — Auckland's youngest and most iconic volcano. Formed just 600 years ago, it remains one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city and the inspiration behind much of SO/ Auckland's design story.

As the sun sets and the harbour begins to glow, it's one of the best seats in the city to take it all in.

Long before Auckland became a skyline of glass towers and harbour views, it was shaped by fire.
More than 50 volcanoes sit beneath the city, forming the landscape that surrounds SO/ Auckland today. This neon installation by artist Benny Castles reimagines that volcanic geography in electric colour — tracing lava fields, crater basins, and the iconic forms that built the city from the ground up.
