The Auckland Jazz and Blues Club

The Auckland Jazz and Blues Club The Auckland Jazz and Blues Club (AJBC) was formed in 1992 to further the interests of jazz and blues in Auckland.

Each night features a different local or out of town band for the entertainment. Sometimes an International star makes an appearence. Steaming hot jazz every club night with the music styles ranging from traditional dixieland, bebop, modern jazz, jazz vocals, swing jazz and big band jazz. AJBC members $15

Special Notes:

The Mike Walker Memorial Award - This is a new award introduced by the Auckland Jazz and Blues Club (AJBC) to recognise the top pianist.

Mike Walker was the president of the AJBC over the last two decades until he passed away during May this year. Mike was an outstanding pianist, so this award has been introduced in Mike’s memory so his outstanding legacy is never forgotten. The award carries a $250 cash prize.

Auckland Jazz and Blues Club (AJBC) Life Membership Award:-

Eddie Hare, was awarded AJBC Life Membership in acknowledgement of his services to the Auckland Schools Jazz Compeitions over many years, music education and for live performances.

Eddie is Assistant Head of Music at Westlake Boys High School.

AUCKLAND SECONDARY SCHOOL JAZZ COMPETITION - FINALS - to be held on 9-8-26

Following the heats, the combos and big bands listed below have made it to the finals which will be held at the Birkenhead RSA on 9 August, as from 1 pm.

Do come along to support these bands. You’ll be amazed at the high standard of performance by the secondary school students.
