Aloft display in our pub of RAF fighter pilot Capt Brown flying a Sopwith Camel, in hot pursuit of Baron Manfred Von Richthofen in his Fokker triplane on the 21st of April 1918. The Ace pilot "The Red Baron" still today holds the record, officially credited with 80 air combat victories. Capt Brown is credited with downing the baron, however there is strong evidence that it was anti-aircraft machine gunner Sergant Popkin who fired the deadly bullet from the ground. As Brown's attack was made from an altitude above the Red Baron and the deadly bullet had struck from underneath the baron's aircraft. Richthofen managed to land his aircraft on the fields of Somme- His last word was "kaputt" before he died from the gun-wound that had damaged his heart and lungs.
