FACES OF THE DESERT PARK
Introducing Estelle, the Park Director leading the team.
Originally joining the visitor services team focusing on sales and marketing, Estelle has gone on to grow the commercial operations and in the last few years take the on the hot seat as the Director.
In her words, growing up in Alice Springs it’s hard not be passionate about our arid environment. Witnessing how harsh the desert can be and the adaptability of our plants and animals continues to surprise me. Seeing results through breeding programs, germination trials and visitors leaving connected and passionate about the desert landscape is heart-warming.
What has been your highlight of working here at the Desert Park?
Watching the seasons change throughout the year. The drive into work is always grounding. The meandering drive on the entry road gets me each time. Whether it is the amber glow of sunrise on the low hanging cloud over the range it reminds you that we have our very own special sanctuary here at the Desert Park.
What do you love about the Central Australian desert?
Sunsets and the stars! Heading out of town to camp and be surrounded by peace and quiet, time to absorb the changing colours of the sky before enjoying a blanket of stars.
What is your insiders tip for those visiting the Desert Park?
Slow down. There are many sub habitats and stories to explore when you visit. Slow meandering walks are where you will find those quirky stories or a favourite new spot to sit and absorb the beauty of the desert.
