Experience an evening of Hindustani classical music, North India’s oldest and expressive musical tradition. Centered around the soulful sound of the bansuri flute, (teh ancient Indian bamboo flute) the performance explores the beauty of ragas — melodic frameworks designed to evoke different moods, emotions, and times of day through improvisation and intricate musical dialogue. Accompanied by the rhythmic artistry of the tabla, the concert weaves together melody and percussion with high contrasts going from deeply meditative moods to uplifting rhythmical intensities.

Dutch and Portuguese vocal students step into the emotional world of Portuguese Fado 🎤🇵🇹

After a period of dedicated lessons and repertoire preparation, they will share their Fados with family, friends, and audience for the very first time 🌙

In this open concert, each student presents their favourite Fado-accompanied by professional musicians 🎶 Even those who have never performed on stage before will step forward to sing their own Fado, in a moment of honesty, courage, and expression ✨

The atmosphere is inspired by a traditional Fado house 🕯️ with dim lights, small tables, and a quietly attentive audience. Silence… because the Fado will be sung 🤍

As the opening event of Dag van de Componist in Rotterdam, Ensemble Oihua and cellist Maya Fridman present an evening of bold, contemporary music by Rotterdam-based composers.

Set inside the atmospheric Paradijskerk, the programme moves between solo works, chamber music, electroacoustic pieces, and a world premiere—blending acoustic instruments with electronic sound worlds.

The evening opens with Cárceles y Exilios by Saskia Venegas for solo cello and electronics, exploring memory, testimony, and historical silence. From there, the journey continues through intimate piano works, expressive solo performances, and immersive ensemble textures.

A highlight of the night is the world premiere of You’ve been invited to contact your deepest Self by Kaori Neus, written for violin, bass clarinet, and piano.

Together, the programme reflects the diversity, imagination, and experimental energy of Rotterdam’s contemporary music scene.

HOORNENSEMBLE TOET!

Horn ensemble TOET! is a dynamic horn ensemble consisting of young professional and semi-professional horn players from across the Netherlands. The ensemble brings together the rich tradition of the French horn with an adventurous and versatile programme ranging from classical horn repertoire to film music and contemporary works. Audiences can expect the warm, powerful and surprisingly diverse sound of a full horn ensemble, featuring both lyrical melodies and spectacular brass sonorities. With an energetic and accessible approach, TOET! aims to showcase the versatility of the horn in both familiar and unexpected musical settings.

The choir from Rotterdam sings songs that reflect its generation and translates tracks from artists such as Billie Eilish, Froukje, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, and Eefje de Visser into captivating multi-voiced choir pieces while staying true to the heart of the original.

The New Choir is under the creative direction of Guido Nederstigt.

Tōth
Brooklyn-based songwriter and trumpet player Tōth (Alex Toth) returns with his third album – And The Voice Said (February 27, 2026). Tōth is known for their emotionally direct songwriting, magnetic stage presence and trumpet playing. Their new album was co-produced by Grammy nominated artist Caroline Rose and features Kimbra. This record finds Tōth fully blossomed with his most potent work yet.

In this concert you will hear classical Ottoman pieces, some Black Sea, Greek and Catalan traditional songs, and original compositions inspired by them.
The power of the resonance of the strings and the non temperate melodies are some of the elements in common in all the styles mentioned previously.
It will be our own version and interpretation of music that has been played for centuries.

This year’s edition of CHURCH MUSIC is created in collaboration with Klankvorm. Together, they bring forward an evening shaped specifically for the church’s unique acoustic and architectural character. Four artists draw from diverse sonic traditions and experimental approaches, letting their work respond directly to the space itself. From acoustic resonance to sacred aesthetics, every element of the performances is attuned to its surroundings; blurring the lines between the visceral and the transcendental.
