Science on Tap | Q***r Nature: A Double Sided Sword

OASE brings academics and experts out of the lecture hall and into a more relaxed setting. This edition will be about q***rness in nature with lecturer Noah Baars from Narwhal Rainbow Alliance.

By diving into real-life cases from the animal and plant kingdoms, Noah Baars will explore with us how nature can contribute to the understanding and acceptance of ourselves and others. Expect fresh perspectives, conversation and plenty of room for questions. No prior knowledge required, just curiosity and an openness to hear different viewpoints.

At OASE, we create space for q***r stories, perspectives and conversations throughout the year, and during Rotterdam Pride, we’re making a little more room for them. Alongside Science on Tap, we’re hosting a Citytrip to Jakarta (Thu 17 Sept), Men’s+ Circle (Sun 6 Sept) and Q***r Sunday Café (Sun 16 Sept) with ***r_events010 . More info via oaserotterdam.nl

OASE’s Gallery presents Heritage Mosaic, an exhibition by artist Luchandro Franca

The exhibition brings together a series of photographs and videos exploring heritage, tradition and identity. The title Heritage Mosaic refers to a mosaic: diverse elements coming together to form a whole, much like the way our DNA is composed.

As a Dutch-born Curaçaoënaar, Franca has often felt disconnected from his culture and roots. To better understand Antillean traditions and their origins, he collaborated with people who share the same cultural background. Through conversations with different generations, Franca explores these traditions, how they have shaped his identity, and how their importance has diminished or even faded among younger generations.

☼ ⋆｡˚✩ A Taste of Home w/ Precilla Schrier ✩˚｡⋆ ☼

This month, we asked Precilla Precilla Schrier to share her favourite family dish with us. It’s on our menu throughout September.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮
Precilla was born and raised in Rotterdam, with a Filipino mother and Dutch father. She works as an independent programme maker and project manager, and was the project manager for Rotterdam Pride Rotterdam Pride, which takes place from 17 to 27 September this year. She is also trained as a wine sommelier and is always curious about food, flavours and the stories behind them.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝗳𝘂 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗯𝗼
It’s a Filipino-inspired dish of tofu braised in soy sauce, cane vinegar, garlic, onion, bay leaves, brown sugar and lime, served with a fresh cucumber and cherry tomato salad. Tip: Add Precilla’s favourite dessert, banana turon with ice cream.

On Monday 17 August we came together to honour the legacy of Curaçaoan resistance leader Tula, who led the largest revolt in Curaçao against slavery in 1795. His fight for freedom, justice and human dignity continues to inspire generations.
