This edition:
Babette Zwinkels is a 24-year-old singer-songwriter from Rotterdam with a crystal-clear voice and a heart full of music. Her dreamy pop songs, with a touch of cabaret, touch you deeply and tell stories of love, the longing to be seen, and embracing discomfort, with a disarming honesty that stays with you. Live, she brings her music to life alongside multi-instrumentalist Thomas Heikoop.

This edition:
Babette Zwinkels is a 24-year-old singer-songwriter from Rotterdam with a crystal-clear voice and a heart full of music. Her dreamy pop songs, with a touch of cabaret, touch you deeply and tell stories of love, the longing to be seen, and embracing discomfort, with a disarming honesty that stays with you. Live, she brings her music to life alongside multi-instrumentalist Thomas Heikoop.

Engel Gaardner is a songwriting duo consisting of visual artist/songwriter Olivia Degen and guitarist Benjamin de Raad. Engel Gaardner creates atmospheric, meticulous music; think Jessica Pratt, Nick Drake and João Giberto. Last year, the duo recorded their debutalbum on tape, which they plan to release this fall with TinyroomRecords.

The final two editions of the Playgrounds Sessions, hosted by Lab Grounds, will be taking place over the coming weeks.

This Saturday, we’ll be hosting the second-to-last edition, featuring live performances by Lydia Stavraki and Ysa Bermejo.

On Friday the 28th, we’ll close out the sessions with performances by Babette Zwinkels and Engel Gaardner.

Come join us one last two times to enjoy the sunshine, beautiful music, refreshing drinks and, of course, our delicious BBQ.

The Playgrounds Sessions: LYDIA STAVRAKI & YSA BERMEJO

This summer, we will open our cosy garden again and every two weeks we will serve you the best live music, the tastiest food and the coldest drinks to create an amazing evening together.

This edition:
A fresh mix of Latin American music, jazz and Greek influences. In this project, Lydia Stavraki brings her heritage into dialogue with Cuban and Brazilian traditions through original compositions and reimagined arrangements. Together with pianist Anita Fiszman, she creates an open, layered sound where Latin American traditions weave into an imaginative musical language.

You may already be familiar with Ysa Bermejo, and if not, now’s the time! The Spanish artist has been building her profile in Rotterdam and is known for her charismatic stage presence and her blend of Latin American and Spanish musical influences. Through her music, she aims to bring people together, and this is certainly evident on her debut album Gabriela. So get ready for a summery evening where this Spanish sun will shine brightly.

The Playgrounds Sessions: CURTIS MILLEN & KEVIN BOKOMO

This summer, we will open our cosy garden again and every two weeks we will serve you the best live music, the tastiest food and the coldest drinks to create an amazing evening together.

This edition:
Curtis Millen is an Irish soul-funk artist whose electrifying live performances blend the emotional depth of classic soul with the energy of modern funk, house, and disco. Born in West Belfast in the aftermath of conflict, he channels resilience and lived experience into a sound shaped by Motown, Jazz, and the raw edge of ’90s grunge and hip-hop.

Kevin Bokomo, born and raised in Congo, is a singer-songwriter with a background in soul and African gospel music. He explores the vibrant music scene in hometown Rotterdam to bring his blend of soul, R&B and funk to life. His vocal influences come from Al Green, D’Angelo, and Lokua Kanza, among others. One word undoubtedly connects Kevin and the vocalists he admires: smooth.

This edition: MIRDJO & DANNY YELLOW
MIRDJO is a Rotterdam-based singer-songwriter with Algerian roots whose music floats between pop, R&B, soul and a touch of alternative. She draws inspiration for her music from her own experiences, giving genuine emotions a central role. Vulnerability, resilience and comfort: with great sensitivity, MIRDJO sings her way into your heart.

Danny Yellow is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Rotterdam, known for his personal lyrics and emotional music. Whereas in the past he often found himself lost in the online chaos, he now looks solely to the world surrounding him. For it is there that the most powerful stories are born. Each of his performances is therefore a unique experience, as music is best enjoyed live.

This summer, we will open our cosy garden again and every two weeks we will serve you the best live music, the tastiest food and the coldest drinks to create an amazing evening together. Each session, we invite a couple of artists who will take you on a musical journey into their wonderful world.

This edition: OMAR KA & BAO SISSOKO
Senegalese Rotterdam-based Omar Ka brings the rich musical tradition of the Fulani, West Africa’s largest nomadic people, to the GROUNDS Café. His eccentric voice and irresistible mix of Fulani folk, Dakar beats, Afro-reggae and Desert blues will leave no one unmoved. For this special occasion, he will be accompanied by Bao Sissoko, a masterful kora player who has previously performed with Baaba Maal, Zap Mama and Malick Pathe Sow. Together, they will take us on an intimate journey to their African roots.
