The New Wave Café, better known as Inpoet, started in the Klompstraat in Heerlen in the building of VJV Inpoet in 1982 (Kind of youth and young adults center: there was a Café, a small cinema e. A group of young people(Punks and New Wavers), had asked them to organize activities and VJV Inpoet offered them a place. Inpoet moved to another location in Heerlen: Akestraat 88 in september 1983, but re
mained giving the New Wave Café support. The intention was to rebuild the old building into a youth centre with above it living spaces. The New Wave Café remained in the Klompstraat until the 27th of October 1984 and had their last evening on that date; the property was subsequently demolished by authorities because they bought it from its owners (which we were not), they changed the area into a big parking space and later when they bought all the surrounding old buildings they build apartments there. The New Wave Café went back to Inpoet at the Akerstraat 88 in Heerlen. Per 1 January 1987 Inpoet was declared bankrupt and the building was occupied by the volunteers of the various groups who had shelter there. That occupation resulted in a new Super-Board(organized by authorities)and the activities could go on again. The cinema got a new building in the garden and the rest was divided about the main building. There were big plans to the building to adapt also to organize more live performances. In this form the New Wave Café functioned until 1991. The authorities subsequently sold the property to a private buyer and they could not meet his financial claims. The New Wave Café there had to leave eventually after ruling of the District Court on April 1, 1992. The last evening of the New Wave Café was with a sparkling feast held on Friday the 27th of March 1992. In the media the atmosphere was described as follows: solid stirring music ... most diverse figures and strange hairstyles wave along with fluent moving bodies and concerns in the light of color changing dipped for a wondrous spectacle .....
