Two great value Bordeaux buys in big-bottle format:

**Château Cos Labory 2014** — classic Saint-Estèphe, fresh and structured, with Cabernet-led cassis, earthy spice and that proper Left Bank grip. 2014 was a particularly strong vintage for Saint-Estèphe, and Cos Labory remains one of the smarter value picks among classified growth Bordeaux.

**Château Sociando-Mallet 2018** — Haut-Médoc with a cult following for a reason. Deep, powerful and age-worthy, with dark fruit, cocoa, liquorice and firm Médoc character. A wine that often drinks like it belongs in a much more expensive postcode.

Magnums don’t just age beautifully — they make every case, cellar and dinner table look instantly more impressive. Great producers, great vintages, and still very sensible value for Bordeaux.

Some bottles simply overdeliver.

Duluc de Branaire-Ducru 2020 — the second wine of Château Branaire-Ducru, one of Saint-Julien’s most elegant and consistent estates.

What I love about Duluc is the value proposition: you get the DNA of a classified growth Bordeaux, from one of the Left Bank’s most reliable addresses, but at a fraction of the price of the grand vin.

The 2020 vintage gives this wine a beautiful balance of ripe dark fruit, cassis, cedar, fine tannins and that classic Saint-Julien freshness. Still young, but already showing charm — and with enough structure to reward a few more years in the cellar.

A serious little Bordeaux gem with one of the best price-quality ratios in Saint-Julien.

Classic Graves white blend: Sauvignon Blanc + Sémillon (sometimes a touch of Muscadelle) — and with a bit of age these wines can turn seriously layered and fascinating.

Tasting week has wrapped up, and the first releases are expected in the coming weeks.
Early impressions are highly encouraging. Multiple critics have already pointed to exceptional quality across the region, including several 100-point wines and strong results from multiple appellations. The vintage is being discussed as one with the potential to rank among the greats — though yields are notably low.
For wine amateurs and enthusiasts, this could make the 2025 campaign especially interesting. Quality looks promising, allocations may be limited, and pricing will be key to identifying the best opportunities.

The 2019 vintage shows beautiful balance and precision, with notes of cassis, blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, and to***co, all wrapped in polished tannins and impressive length.

Château Palmer 2005 in hand — one of Margaux’s most iconic estates, and a château that has long stood apart for its sensual, opulent style. Founded in the 19th century and classified as a Third Growth in 1855, Palmer has consistently performed far beyond that ranking, often rivaling the very best of Bordeaux. The vineyard is also notable for its unusually high proportion of Merlot for a Left Bank estate, a key part of Palmer’s signature texture, perfume, and charm.

In the monumental 2005 vintage, Palmer produced a wine that is both powerful and beautifully composed. The nose opens with cassis, black cherry, violets, cedar, graphite, and exotic spice, while the palate shows dense dark fruit, fine tannins, freshness, and a long, layered finish. A serious wine, but with all the seduction Margaux is known for.

Château Troplong Mondot 2020 🍷
A true icon from Saint-Émilion, Château Troplong Mondot has a history that reaches back centuries, with the estate taking its modern name in the 18th century when Raymond Troplong added his own name to Mondot. Perched on one of the highest points of Saint-Émilion, the château is known for its remarkable limestone-rich terroir, giving the wines both power and precision.

What makes Troplong Mondot so fascinating is its ability to combine depth, richness and freshness in one glass. The estate has long been admired for producing wines with a bold, opulent style, yet always with the structure and elegance needed for long ageing.

The 2020 vintage is a beautiful example of that balance. A warm and concentrated year, but with enough freshness to keep everything vibrant and refined. Expect layers of dark berries, plum, violet, cocoa, spice and mineral tension, wrapped in silky but serious tannins. A vintage with impressive energy already, but one that promises a very long future in the cellar.
