Support TestTafel Mediamatic, Help Us Reopen!

We’ve teamed up with De Sering and their innovative dining project, TestTafel. Together, we plan to reopen our doors to an experimental plant-based food concept and creative hub at Mediamatic.

We need your help to make this happen. By supporting our crowdfunding campaign, you’re not just donating but you can pre-buy and spend it on TestTafel or De Sering for the future.

Mediamatic has been a creative and cultural hub on the Amsterdam waterside for years. Now, we are reopening our space and we’re doing it with De Sering. We are excited to present our new dining concept under the name TestTafel.

At Mediamatic ETEN, we have always been more than just a restaurant. We are a cultural institution, a creative laboratory, and a place where food, art, and sustainability meet.

Over the years together with artists & chefs, we’ve explored how food interacts with the senses, sustainability, and artistic expression whether through our Neo Futurist Dinners, experimental food making workshops, gastronomical summits or art installations. Now, we want to expand this vision by creating a radically new type of dining and cultural experience.

Every spring, Mediamatic organises a festival around the exotic invasive Japanese knotweed. This year’s season explores the positive properties of Japanese Knotweed, including its surprising edibility. Join us for the finale of the Japanese Knotweed Season 2024 and explore the gastronomical possibilities of this plant.

This summit brings together a unique blend of chefs, researchers, designers, and artists to explore the multifaceted world of the Japanese Knotweed plant. Through thought-provoking discussions, workshops, culinary creations and tastings, the summit aims to delve deeper, transcending the plants reputation as a nuisance, placing it center stage to celebrate its potential.

Neo Futurist Dinner #17 : Knots, Weeds, Roots | May 8 - 19

In Knots, Weeds & Roots, artist-chefs Alaa Abu Asad, Uno Fujisawa and Aslı Hatipoğlu present 7 courses of ingredients with histories similar to their own. A multi-sensory culinary experience combining storytelling and delicious food.

During this unique dinner event you will be guided through Mediamatic’s biotope, past the full life cycle of Japanese knotweed and other “invasive” species. From the roots to the leaves and finally decay. The artists outline a hopeful future where different species and people can live together harmoniously. What lessons can we learn from plants? To what extent are our problems similar? Taste, play, feel, smell, peel, rub and discover the multifaceted properties of these extraordinary species.
