Only one more week until Amsterdam Dance Event. We can’t wait to see the red cube looking like this for 7 days straight.

A lot of events are already sold out, but there are still some tickets left for a few. Be quick though, because the final tickets are going fast.

This Saturday, Caim, Kevin Lo and Mattias El Mansouri take over the red cube. Three proper diggers, but all with a very different way of approaching house. Let’s zoom in.

First, Mattias El Mansouri. He started producing at around 14 on an iPad with GarageBand, making what he now calls bad copies of the weird, dark electronic music he was obsessed with at the time. Then he found Aniara, Northern Electronics and especially Dorisburg. That changed things. Now he’s a resident at Stockholm’s Under Bron, co-runs Ritmo Liminal. He received a lot of praise for his release on Rotterdam’s label Nous’klaer. In his sets curiosity matters more than genre: house, disco, techno, and sometimes something completely unexpected in between.

Then Caim. As a Breakfast Club resident, he basically grew up as a DJ in the afterhours. And that’s still his favourite time to play. No need to force big records but more room to go deep and let people disappear into the music a little. Over the years that took him further into progressive and trance, and especially the weird middle ground between goa, psytrance and tribal tech-house.

Last, Kevin Lo. The man is properly obsessed with house music. Chicago, Detroit, deep house, acid, percussion. He’s constantly digging for new records and hidden gems across the whole spectrum. Last year that took him all the way to his Lowlands debut.

This Friday, the red cube will be taken over by Festen, Mia Cecille b2b Zeynep, and Nathan Homan. Let’s zoom in a little further on the artists.

Starting with some proper female energy: Mia Cecille b2b Zeynep. Calling Mia merely a DJ wouldn’t do her justice, because she does a lot. From spatial design and writing to creating her own events and visual installations: she breathes creativity. Something that also shows in her sets. Never the same, always innovative.

Then Zeynep. One of her first core memories of music comes from Kurdish weddings as a child, where the music was so loud she could feel the drums in her ribcage. Maybe that’s where her close connection to community comes from. For her, community is at the heart of dance music. As she says, it’s not about the DJ, but about everyone shaping the night.

Next, Nathan Homan. One of those people practically intertwined with music. Collector, purist, producer, label owner. His love for records and music is so big that a career outside of it probably was never really an option.

Last but not least, Festen. The duo is formed by Neo and Bix Festen. Yes, it’s their real surname, and yes, they’re brothers. They both studied at the Electronic Music Academy, basically the electronic conservatory, and that’s where they found their sound. It’s underground, made for the underground, and you won’t find it on Spotify.

Friday. November 20th.

Shoulder-to-shoulder, back-to-back, all night long. Bambounou and Julian Anthony at the red cube.
Both DJs are difficult to put in a box. They’re known for combining sounds from different genres in their sets, shaped by their cultural backgrounds. And this night is a first: they’ve never played an all-night b2b together before. Expect both artists to bring their gems, strengths and influences to the table.
